Mary MJM's Journal, 19 Feb 18

I have totally failed. Gained weight instead of losing it. Been eating way too much and not exercising. Been down in the dumps and can't see the light for all the darkness. And to think I used to be an extremely fit competitive swimmer in my younger years.

Shift work is killing me. I can't keep motivated and I have no inclination to get back in the pool. Even though I used to always love the water. My last blood tests show my TSH hormone is currently sitting at 15 and will need to have another blood test when I'm back home in 5 weeks time to determine whether I need to go back onto Thyroxine or not. Feel like giving up.

Might start the celebrity slim program and see if that works. Have never had to worry about my weight before and therefore have never dieted in my life. This is so hard, I don't know how all the other people on this site do it. You are all champions in my eye's.

And have realized that I need to keep moving my entries over a day as when this site says it's Monday 19th February it's actually Tuesday 20th February for me. Slightly frustrating, but I guess it's a slight downside to this site that I will have to deal with.

Proud of you for your post as it shows you have not given up and this is a setback but not the end of road. Since you were a competitive swimmer you know how to be disciplined. You will get there. Log everything and then look at where you can cut back or substitute a healthier food. Hang in there; it will get better.

We do it because we have to! I have found that the best diet is the one that works with you. That means real food. My daughter used to carry a small bag of cut vegetables with her everywhere. to satisfy her need to snack. Personally, I like keto, (DietDoctor.com), because if what I need to eat is not available, I can skip meals without ill effect. I am diabetic, and keto flattens my glucose spikes, enabling me to fast. It seems impossible now, but you will find your own groove if you look for it. The better you eat, the more easily your brain will work, and the easier it will be to do what you want to do..

You can definately turn this into a positive. Don't go the restrictive route,go the long term health route. I have to say the least I focus on losing weight the easier it is to be in right mentality to do it. Also try out switching to a more plantbased approach and lower the fat macros or at least switch them mostly to plantbased fats and not only will you lose weight effortlessly but your hormones and whole mental health/energy will be better..hang in there if you want some help I can if you need.

i'm doing Low Carb High Fat and it seems to be working. Miss carbs like bread and pasta but eating much more sausages, bacon, eggs and vegetables now which I love. Maybe try it

I'd be depressed if all I ate were plants. Keto makes dieting fun while enjoying the healthy meaty fats and not having cravings or be hungry snacking on rabbit foods

We're here. Count the small victories. It's a marathon not a sprint, it's hard but you'll get there.

I found with low carb High fat the weight fell off ,lost 22kg , but when the diet ended it came back even quicker , so stay on the diet !

Keto keeps you fuller longer, you were probably eating a lot more off of keto then you realized. As carbs don't keep you feel satiated as long.

If you have a thyroid problem it’s hard to lose weight...I was born without thyroid, have been on thyroid replacement since I was 4.5 months old and there’s times you feel like crap...just do what you can when you can and don’t beat yourself up Good luck
