Really good

I saw a poster about 'nutrition' is covered in one class for doctors in med school. I was thinking one day about the chicken/egg situation. A doctor is mainly trying to 'heal' people (or so I expect) yet I imagine the biggest challenge they fight are illnesses caused by obesity related health issues.

My doc advised 90-120 net carbs daily for healing my T2D. I just nodded and continued trying to stay under 20 net and my fasting readings came down from mid 300's to often under 100. I've slowly increased the net 30-40 via veggies and still maintaining the BG.

Nutrition should be left up to the dietician or nutritionist.

aboutmytribe I agree, but even they have some adjustments to make. Low Carb is still suspect, even amount some dietitians as well as many physicians!

Really? Wow. I have heard that is good for certain people but not recommended for everybody. But never an all out "it is bad"

South Africa is just a microcosmic reflection of the prevailing opinion in the medical/nutrition community here in the United States. Nutritionists are largely people to be avoided; anyone can use the title. Dietitians have to be certified and registered to use the title, and the prevailing opinion in that community is anti-low carb.

Love this! (Of course. I'm a convert.)

@phil.tx Anyone who takes the time to read the research will discover that low COH should be taken seriously. It is especially helpful in keeping blood sugars from spiking constantly and if your diabetic 1 or 2 it's highly effective in controlling blood sugar. It's also a very satisfying diet!

Mike, sure if you're a diabetic. Not sure why it should be taken seriously otherwise. Japan has the highest life expectancy. Rice, noodles, fish, fruit, and vegetables are what their diets revolve around. Micronutrient rich and high fiber diets. High carb, low fat, low calorie plus an active life style= a long healthy life.

Thanks for your input, Dr. Diablo, you can take your arguments up with Tim Noakes, on twitter @ProfTimNoakes

You don't need to be a doctor to see Italy and Japan have a much higher life expectancy than the U.S. while getting most of their calories from carbs. It's called a healthy calorie intake and a higher non-exercise activated thermogenesis(more daily movement). I'm not anti-LC, and I was responding to Mike, not this article. I have no interest in reading it.

It's a twitter thread, not an article, but sure, you dismiss low carb as nothing to be taken seriously (unless your're diabetic), but then say you're not anti-low carb. Both of your assertions can't be true, you either dismiss low-carb as nothing to be taken seriously (unless you're diabetic), or you're not anti-low carb. Presently, and going forward, this argument has been beaten to death and I really don't care.

Put yourself in my shoes. Why would I? The countries with the longest life expectancies do high carb. I do very high carb while maintaining a healthy lean body. Again, why would I care about the fear mongering around carbs?

I am not anti LC in the sense that if people want to do it they can go ahead, idc. For me personally? Oh yeah, very anti LC for my goals and preferences.

Why would I want to put myself in your shoes? That's your whole problem, you look at everything through your lens and expect everyone else to see your point of view. No where anywhere has anyone recommended you change your routine, there's no reason for me to, "put myself in your shoes", I didn't ask you to consider switching.

TBH, I don't even know what we're arguing. Mike said LC should be taken seriously. I don't agree. That is it.

Oh, yeah, low carb is a joke, but you're not anti-low carb. I don't know what we're arguing either, nothing on this thread was addressed to you.

I try every diet on planet Earth :-) I lost 20 pounds (10 kg) on keto, but I gaind all back in abut 6 months. In that time I had serious problems with heart paltipatitons, high blood pressure and sweating, my cardiologist convince me to stop eating too much proteins and fats. So I did. I went to dietitian and she calculate everything for me advising me to read book Eat to live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Now I eat plant based and i feel great and hope this way of eating will be my lifestile. So i am not against any diet as long as it works but obviously some diets works for some people and for other don’t. I love this group because it has so many different people with diferent styles of eating and everybody respect everybody. Lets keep it like that :-)
