I've told by others that the Smith is shit but I honestly love it for a lot of lifts. There's a few I'll do a free barbell for but I don't care I keep using the Smith!

You can definitely make it shit by using it incorrectly. I've seen people set up seated shoulder presses where the bench is too far back. It can definitely lead to an injury. Otherwise, if you're smart about your range of motion, it's great!
