A couple weeks ago hubby had me bench 100#. I could get like 3 reps. Sunday I decided to try 105. Barely made one and then had very little left for the next exercise :/. While I was saying ‘okay okay okay’ for hubby to take it he kept saying ‘you can do it, a little more’. Knew that sucker was gonna come straight down on me lol. I managed to get it to the rack but he had to actually pull it back on the rack for me. Hard enough with lower weights because I’m short and the lowest rack setting is as far as I can reach leaned up a bit with back arched. My finger tips barely graze the bar on the next one up lol. And that’s with the seat all the way up!

You sound like hubby lol. He wants me to go to 100# and work up. On 95# I can do around 8, 6, 5. I was trying to get it closer to 12, 10, 8 before going up. Guess since I have two people telling me 100# I’ll do 100# lol.

Peeper, that’s insane that you’re able to even do one rep with that weight!?!¿!¿ That’s like lifting a teenager over your head. 😲

Wow peeper! That's impressive! I can do bar plus 10#. I can usually get 7-8reps. I may try heavier but not w/o a spotter.

I think it would be easier to lift a kid over my head honestly lol. I can carry my teenager (140ish) on my back, over my shoulder and in front of me like married men carry their brides over the threshold. Well I could when she was 130, haven’t tried it since then. I piggy back my 90# 11 year old like nothing. She knows how to jump on my back putting very little weight on me until she settles in. The bench work seems much harder. It’s kinda scary when you realize you are pushing with all you’ve got and the bar isn’t going up lol. Not even enough energy left to push it back to rack it. If I’m alone or with my teenager then the most I’ll do is about 85#.

Diana, have you tried the other benches like incline and decline? I wasn’t getting much weight until I started on those. I’m still lower weights like 85# incline and 65# decline (bar weighs 45# so only 40# & 20# added) on those. I didn’t think I’d ever get past just a 10# weight on either side until I started with incline and decline. You can also do military press. I do mine sitting down with the smith machine because I’m too wobbly just with the bar. It’s a 15# bar I think and I add 25# to each side for 65# total. I think doing them all helps keep everything in shape so I can do more on the flat bench press.
