shirfleur 1's Journal, 12 Mar 21

Tuesday afternoon I was driving home after lunch with friends. I had not slept well Monday night and was feeling very tired. I was about two miles from home and traffic was heavy, so I exited the freeway onto the feeder road. I was approaching the intersection where I would turn, and the next thing I knew, I had slammed into the car in front of me. I dozed off while driving! Anyway, we were going slowly, so fortunately I did not injure anyone, but it was a VERY scary experience, and if it had happened five minutes earlier, I'd have been going 70 MPH on the freeway. My only injury was a brushburn on my thumb when the airbag deployed. I have a rental car with all the bells and whistles, but am really not feeling like driving yet.

So glad you're alright. Stay safe out there, and thank goodness you followed your inner voice to get off the freeway when you did. It's the weekend - RRR's - Rest, Recover, Rejuvenate!

Glad to hear you're ok. You might want to get your blood sugars checked. That was what was happening to me at the height of my diabetes ---- and the reason I was diagnosed. I couldn't go 5 minutes in a car without falling asleep. Hell, I'd even fall asleep (soundly and for HOURS) while on the toilet. Hope it was just being overly tired. ((HUGS))

Goodness Jo, that's scary - falling asleep in a car or on a toilet for hours? Wow. It could also be narcolepsy. Whatever the case, important to get this checked.

I have narcolepsy. It’s scary to fall asleep behind the wheel. I now have meds that help that.

OMG!!! What is "wrong" w/you??? Take a nap!!! Pull over and take a quick 10 minute nap, or at home everyday. Sheesh!!! WTH?! Please,....don't drive "anymore". Get someone to take you, next time, or just take a walk or bus. My word!!! Don't piss me off, again. :-\

I hope the driver of the other car was ok as well. A close call for sure.

That is so scary and it's amazing that you pulled on to the slower road just at the right time. Glad you are okay and no one was hurt.

@LC yes it was terrifying. Getting my blood sugars under control has stopped all that, thankfully. @Lemock - wow, I couldn't imagine having narcolepsy. It's frustrating enough to be fatigued due to high sugars, but to have it all the time. Glad meds have helped.

I've pulled over before when exhausted to get out and do some jumping jacks. It may look weird to passersby, but it gets the blood pumping. Cranking the music, too, of course. Nonetheless, if this was just a one-time thing, I'm glad everyone's okay, but otherwise I'd talk to your doctor ASAP. It's not just your own life at stake when behind the wheel.

@Lchfjo Yes, glad you've found something that keeps everything well under control.
