Debbie Cousins's Journal, 07 Apr 22

Well, I recorded everything I ate today, and logged all my exercise -- all on the WRONG day! I put everything on Wednesday. I must admit that logging my food caused me to eat LESS than I would have eaten. Food was 2,134 calories. Exercise was 3,557. I'm showing a deficit of 1,423 calories. But, there's a chance that I will get up before midnight and have something else to eat - it happens.

Beat my exercise record again today with 4.1 miles. My knees were really hurting by the end of the day, in spite of having taken 3225mg aspirin twice, and applying Voltaren cream 2x. Praying they'll be back to good tomorrow. If they hurt like they do right now, though, I won't be pushing as hard.

Pace yourself Debbie...maybe stay with the 3 miles and keep logging the food??

How are you calculating your exercise? Basic rule of thumb: A mile walked is only a 100 calorie burn. The 4.1 miles would only total 410 calories burned. If you're using one of those wrist trackers, be aware that they always overestimate the burn by several hundred calories.

@JustBananas, I use a walking app called Stepz. It calculates the calories burned based on the time and distance I've walked, using my weight and height. I'm guessing it burns a lot more calories for someone who is carrying around an extra hundred pounds than it does for someone who is more near their ideal weight.

There is a 👌FIX, when you log on the wrong day. Go to the right, the second shadowed green box. Choose 'Save each meal' and click save for 'All Meals'. Name them *tempB,*tempL,*tempD, *tempSn. Then go to the proper day, and click 'add item' and choose from Saved meals, and select your temp meals, When done delete the temp meals from your meal list, and all the entry errors from the wrong day. OR FIX#2_ 🤷‍♀️Shrug your shoulders, say "Oh Well" and move on. When you get to the day that you filled in by error, just call it 'meal planning' and eat exactly the same meals.

Wow - Be careful about knee pain - you should walk one day and rest the next - since you are so carrying a lot of weight with you - have you ever tried Ibuprofen for body pain - BE careful about taking too much aspirin since it can cause internal organ bleeding and brain bleeding - especially that large amount - Ibuprofen is for body pain - remember that pain reliever attach to parts of your brain receptors that register pain - so that receptor is filled and you can longer feel pain. Pain is the body's warning - that your flesh is being damaged - if you cannot feel pain when you take a pain reliever than you might further injure your body/flesh. It takes me - about 12 or more hours for half of a Ibuprofen to wear off. So be really careful about taking any more aspirin. You stop scaring the h*ll out of me !!!

If you have a bathtub - have a warm bath and soak your knees - then put a light coating (very light) of Vick"s Vapour Rub on your knee or aching muscles - do not get any in your nose or any other opening or orifice. Other mentholated products do not work the same (I tried them all) good old Vick's Vapour Rub - in the little blue glass or plastic container. Then rest and sleep because muscle only heals itself when a person is sleeping. Be careful.

I only started walking at 150 pounds - I refused to carry that extra weight around and I had no desire to "tone" any bigger form - you cannot lose any weight by walking or exercise --- the only way to lose weight is to cut down on your calorie count. We are not weight lifters - though we do have lots of practice.

Eat more easily digestible foods - softer foods or things that melt in your mouth - and the body only starts to digests foods about two and a half hours - after you stop eating ---- so keep your eating to your meal times and do not consume any food or drink in between meals - then the body digests your food and uses some of your stored fat energy. Even if you drink one cup of coffee - the digestive process slows right down and stops.

I was using my weigh scale - and keeping a record of how long it took for my body to process the meal that I ate --- I weighed before eating - then right after the meal - then do not eat or drink any other thing - and weigh in 2 hours and see if your body has begun to use the meal that you ate. If you keep putting fuel into a fireplace - then it stops or slows its burning and smoulders - so you have to give your own "furnace/body" the time and the room to burn your own fuel. DO NOT WORRY - because in only a few hours --- You will eat again.

Jergens123- if you really want to know how long it takes various types and kinds of foods to digest, the scientific data for that is recorded in charts, etc. GOOGLE brings it up without problem

If I log foods on the wrong day, I pull up "recently eaten" & save it on the proper day. Then, I delete it off the wrong day. I use the phone app to do this.

Thank you Kenna ---- I had no idea that such a site existed or that kind of information was available ---- when I think back about all of the weeks that I spent trying to figure out what foods digested faster than others ---- I spent most of my days "naked" standing on the scale. lol.

Science is happening where I live ...

Jergens123 many people scoff at GOOGLE— I don’t know why. It is a tool, a wonderful tool to open the Pandora’s box of the secrets of the life. Ask a question, check out a few of the sources, look for consistency in the responses. There are so many medical related sites that have been set up to help the lay person become or stay informed and to help them not just follow others blindly but to make better decisions for their own life

There’s a handy chart that gives a pretty good estimate of calories burned based on weight and distance walked: https://www.verywellfit.com/walking-calories-burned-by-miles-3887154#:~:text=Your%20weight%20and%20the%20distance,Your%20walking%20speed%20matters%20less. For instance, if you weighh 250 lbs, walking 4 miles burns 532 calories. If you weigh 160, you only burn 340. It’s only approximate, but it gives you an accurate range. There is also a really good articlel that gives more info and tips for burning more calories. Keep up the great work! One day at a time!
