abbadabba's Journal, 05 Dec 22

Up a little in weight today, so no change really. Logged everything yesterday and I think I just have to focus. Cutting calories can be painful but here's the thing: I have had a lot of days where I was stuffed to the gills. Ate too many cookies. Finished off that cake because I didn't send the extra home with anyone. Had seconds and thirds and alcohol. So, for everyday I indulged, I think I am going to have to un-indulge to undo the damage those overages caused me. It's like overdraft fees for your body - if you draw in too many calories, you have to pay for it to get back to where you should be!
And this: it occurred to me that I go to Costco too often. I go there because they are the only store that sells the almond milk I like. I buy a case, it takes 4 weeks to use it up, and then I go again to get more and at least 4 other things usually treats. Just realized that the shelf life of that milk is 8 or 10 months so I could buy 3 or 4 cases at a time and save having to go to Costco.
Today I am making macaroni and cheese with roasted pumpkin. I can puree some of the pumpkin and also keep some in chunks of the 3 little pumpkins I just baked and make mac-and-cheese-and-pumpkin meals. Will also add spinach and maybe some kale. Gotta figure out what containers to put them in, but I do have a second freezer so I have plenty of freezer space for them.

Costco and Sam's are dangerous places. I usually just buy meat, paper products and vitamins there. The milk should freeze well so you could go even less often. I always keep some cow's milk in my freezer. Try freezing a small amount to make sure it'll work.

I only go to Sam's for paper goods and gifts as well. The packaging encourages over indulging unless you have a household of a dozen. They Should post Caution Signs, especially in bakery and snack isles! Who needs a 10# cheese cake?

I don't have any membership at those mega marts, so I go to local markets nearby my apartment and good enough to maintain my daily life.

I have recently been experimenting with breads....kaisers, english muffins and oh my gosh bagels. So hard to stay out of them, but I allow myself just one when I make them. On the flip side I also make my own Oatmilk so I can have the odd bowl of cereal with fewer calories. It is so easy to make and I can now have a low calorie turmeric tea. Last time hubby and I went to Costco it was to stock up on a deal on wine kits. We got a few looks with that flatbed....it was a years supply! A 10# cheesecake on the other hand would not last nearly as long.
