Toni Bourlon's Journal, 12 Jan 23

Rant time - so I made a chicken, rice & broccoli dish straight out of the diabetic cookbook for my husband. He took a few small bites & told me he didn't like it, which upsets me greatly. Once again we're arguing about food, he doesn't want to eat healthy(ish) diabetic friendly foods & I'm ready to just buy diet TV dinners for myself & stop cooking altogether. Problem is, we have a freezer full of meat & not really much room for store-bought TV dinners. He said no problem, just cook what I want & package up the leftovers into homemade TV dinners for myself. Well fine then, I think I will!

Of course, the whole thing will probably blow over in a day or two....

Here's the thing: you aren't arguing about food, you are arguing about him taking care of himself, and that really hurts when your partner doesn't even appreciate that you want them to stay alive! Also, those diabetic cookbooks are made for people who have no taste buds - maybe find a spicy diabetic-friendly sauce to put on the dishes? Hope it works out for you two!

You can't force people to eat healthy, even spouses. So I hope you do just cook for yourself (TV dinners are gross and I'm sure your homecooking is much healthier and better-tasting). Your husband isn't 8 years old -- he can cook or buy his own meals.
