Mike Mentzer was way ahead of his time. I wish I would have listened to this when I got started in bodybuilding. I don't know when this was recorded but I think it was from the '80s. From flexible dieting to the best macros to build muscle. 60% carbs, 25% protein, 15% fat. This is a great listen!

He died of heart failure. Natural causes but well publicized cardio issues. Very sad

Interesting that this was my generation you all are talking about. Everything comes back around if enough time goes by.

No not the Anatoly guy lol his pranks are all fake. If you take a look at the actual weight it’s nothing to be impressed about yet they act like the big dudes have trouble lifting it.... total act. I called him out many times on his dumb videos and it gets annoying to see after. The average person believes he’s super strong but that’s cuz they see bumper plates. I think the heaviest plates I’ve seen him used is 35lbs which looks enormous as bumpers. People often thinks it’s 45s. As for the deadlifting like Larry wheels... Sumo vs conventional. And sumo with the right mobility and a deadlift bar is hax

And by not impressive I mean it’s what you’d expect a person of his musculature to be able to do. I could do all the things he does but minus the sumo reading that much lol yet I’m not popular cuz people like to be fooled

And yoh I’m pretty sure he was on steroids

Naw, I've seen comparisons of both deadlift styles and a regular deadlifter has seen no advantage doing sumo. People deadlift how it feels most natural. Sumo doesn't count is a meme. If it were true everyone would do it in competition. How much more can you sumo vs. regular? If it's more, then do sumo. Deadlift is a competition or ego lift anyway, may as well do it how you can do it best.

But I do think his pranks are annoying. The big guys are just lifting to be big. They've accomplished that. If they trained for pure strength while also being on copious amounts of steroids, they'd end up like Ronnie Coleman.

I think anyone impressive in weightlifting is doing steroids. The same way most impressive bodybuilders, NFL players, NBA players etc, are on them. If you heard of them mostly for feats of strength after the time of Sandow, they are probably enhanced. 😁

He should have beaten Arnold in '80 when Arnold made his comeback. But we can't have a previous champ/movie star lose to just anyone.

And you're welcome!

Yea I’m not even gonna argue the sumo part, I do find it useful. But ok sumo is already shorter range right. A deadlift bar give you about a 2” inch. That is a big advantage on range in itself. And yes most deadlifters if they train both they will exceed in the sumo, except me cuz my hips won’t open up. And his pranks is an act, they’re all in it together. They act like the big muscular guy has trouble deadlifting 300lbs it’s insane. Pause his videos and zoom in on his bumper plates and break down how much is weighs it’s not as heavy as you think. To me he’s like the equivalent of fung! And all those crazy diet tricks. For followers n likes. Notice he never lost how much it weighs. I think I might still have a few screenshots of exposing his weights cuz my friends be sending his TikTok vids to me and I break down his weights and call him a trickster.

I thought it was 3 times. He did say he only did 1 set of heavy lifts like squats but when I look up some training programs from him they include 5 sets so idk haha

I think the 300 pounds are those big guys working sets, Super, not their max lifts. But I do think it's all an act.

Poor Ronnie Coleman. That’s actually tragic. And super of course in the 80’s and 90’s they were ALL juicing, especially at the heavyweight and light heavyweight level. But they alll denied. As if. There is only a Secretariat born once in a million years and unless one of those dudes was born with a heart 2x normal size (per secretariat) there is no way they are naturally going to put that muscle poundage on. My daughters daddy convinced me in the 80’s (untrue) but i was really young and in love and believed. Until. So did roids contribute to his heart failure? Probably but his family had a history of cardiac issues when they were young from what i remember.

That’s what I’m saying! Lol the big guys are acting like they have trouble lifting. And he does in like excuse me sir and makes it look easy. But it’s all an act

Also, super, there are stretches you can do to help open your hips up. My bad hip gets really tight and i learned courtesy of p.t. Simple one…lay on bed (or if your table is strong enough or an island in kitchen) drop one foot down to the floor but not touching the floor so you want to be high enough. Let it hang there for 60 seconds or more and do other side. Super simple. Helps to open hip up. There are others if you want me to send

Oh for sure, let me tell you about steroids in powerlifting. Where they only juice up around the timeframe of the competition so they wouldn’t be big but get all the strength from the neural drive. And this happens even in amateur circuits!

Still, 300 pounds for a skinny looking janitor type to pick up so easily is impressive, IF any of those were real lol

Year of health, yes, that is my number one reason I'd never touch drugs. I do this for my health as well.

Lol he’s not even that skinny. He’s bigger than me under the baggy shirts. Tho sometimes he looks smaller. I’ve seen him with his shirt off, she’s musculature is good!
