Nikina70's Journal, 23 Jun 23

Had a bit of a health scare this week with my blood pressure being dangerously high. I've been put straight on to some medication to lower it and will speak to someone on Tuesday again to discuss the results of blood tests I went for yesterday.

Gotta say I'm not very happy about it because I have a healthy weight range, exercise regularly and eat really healthily 80% of the time, which I thought was enough to escape the family history of diabetes and blood pressure issues most of my overweight family struggle with.

Hoping to have some answers and clarity soon so I can get back to feeling a bit more normal again. Anxiety and lethargy have been bad for months now, but I put it down to perimenopause - so thought I'd be starting HRT. I'm not keen on taking blood pressure meds for the rest of my life.

So, this week I'm happy with just the maintain. Haven't been doing IF, but still trying to walk fairly often. Step count for the week so far is 30,000 so if we do two good walks over the weekend I could hit my new target of 45,500.

We're hoping to visit a National Trust estate over the weekend to walk the grounds and see the house. Got a family pass in the newspaper a while ago. We'll take a nice picnic along as well and I'm looking forward to it - if the weather plays along.

Hope you all have a good weekend! xxx

Yes, unfortunately I did get a bit emotional, Booty. You have been through some really tough times lately and you always bounce back from the health challenges you face so I hope to do the same. Hope you and WeeG and Pringles are having a lovely weekend and that your IBS is very much under control again. xxx

Aww Nikina, so sorry to read this. What a shock for you. Hypertension is multi factorial and it can be frustrating when you’re clearly committed to a healthy lifestyle. Would be worth pushing to get some additional tests done if the high blood pressure persists. Good luck next week xx

I'm in the exact same boat and I was put on high blood pressure meds about 2.5 weeks ago after my reading was 230/110 after going to hospital. Now it's down to 122/72 and I feel a whole lot better! I know that no one WANTS to be on medication, I sure don't, but it's better than walking around with sky high blood pressure. At least the meds will keep you safe while you work on trying to figure out what the issue is. My problem is because I'm morbidly obese, so it was a wake-up call for me to take my diet and exercise more seriously. I sincerely hope the best for you. It's scary, but it will settle down when you realize how much better you feel with the meds. Sending you hugs and love! ❤️

Thank you, Heather! xx Turns out I am only going for a blood pressure reading and ECG today. The doctor will call me to discuss the blood test results on Thursday next week. So I'm guessing it's not too urgent or serious. 🤞

Thanks HumpT!

Thanks, suma! xx I think the process is rather slow, and now I have to wait until next week for the blood test results, so I'll just have to be patient.

Hi Mitzi80, I'm sorry to hear that you're in the same boat. I am still not happy about being on medication, but I totally get what you're saying. Wishing you all the best, too! ❤️

Don't worry about the medication, it is very much tried and tested. Be aware that there are different types of meds. I was on one whose name I can't remember but it caused pooling of blood in my ankles. A simple change got rid of this problem. If you haven't already got your own blood pressure monitor, buy one. They cost less than £20 and are so convenient and easy to use. Best wishes, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Thank you, IanNEUK, for your reassurance and advice. They offer free blood pressure tests at my local pharmacy, so I plan to get a couple more readings before I speak to the doctor on Thursday and then take it from there. Best wishes with your health and weight loss too!

Aah, thanks for checking in, HumpT! I'm actually feeling very good this week. For some reason, my legs feel sore with my usual amount of walking though (they don't usually), but otherwise, no complaints. I also feel slightly less fatigued than the last couple of weeks, so I'm not sure if that is down to the blood pressure meds. Will see how things go. Hope you're having a good week!

Girl.... What?! Im so sorry. After all the work you are putting in to be healthy, this isn't fair... Not what you want to hear at all. I hope it is nothing to worry about and everything stabilizes happily. Take care of yourself. I'm glad you are feeling relatively OK this week. ❤️

don't think you can escape the hereditary stuff all you try, I'm the same with family history of bp and diabetes, you sometimes have to acknowledge certain things are inevitable and do the best you can regardless
