Nice job paying attention. Every time I up my calories is when I have a loss lately. What app is that, Dazey?

Lose It! I love the data and goals.

Thanks! I will check it out. I don't like how cals out aren't subtracted from cals in here.

I like that it subtracts exercise!

Zenus if you look at your calories on the top of the home page it tells you how many you have left after you have put your exercise in. I dont use the phone app so maybe thats different?

YOH, it does show your calories on phone app as well but doesn't factor in your exercise like this one does and fitness pal does as well.💜

Diana, i put a comment on my journal from today for you. Is this not the same thing? If you happen to read it.

What are the exercise calories based on? Have these estimates gotten better or more customizable with new devices? I have always thought you can’t rely on any estimates from exercise machines or calculators, etc. so I never track them. I would be afraid to be totally led astray by them in my calorie counting.

Agnes... Nothing is completely accurate, not even nutrition labels (they can be up to 20% off). I don't normally subtract the exercise calories, but sometimes the day of and almost ALWAYS the day after my strength training, I go over in calories. It would be nice just to be able to count some of the exercise so that when I or someone else looks at the food diary, it doesn't look quite so bad...lol.

Agnes -- I don't know about the newer ones, but I see wildly differing calorie estimates for intake and exercise from different sources. For example, Google Fit seems to think I need 200 or 300 calories less for maintenance than I've found I actually need to maintain. I think they're good for a ballpark to start, then adjust for what your body is actually doing, both in terms of loss/maintenance and hunger, plus what you need for adequate nutrition

Zenus and writingwyo—the estimates for both food and exercise are a ballpark, I agree, but the exercise estimate is just way above my head to try to use in some meaningful way though I’m all ears for learning from others how they do it. What you do Zenus makes total sense since it’s based on what your body needs for recovery and refueling. For me, exercise calories would be tricky because when I exercise, especially in the morning, I notice I move less the rest of the day—just plopping down more, so that is probably throwing off any total daily calorie expenditure and offsetting any calorie deficit from exercise alone. But my hat off to anyone who figured out how to effectively use the info from exercise trackers.

You need a negative balance to lose weight, though. Your picture shows that you ate 2300 kcal, not 1700. With a 1700 kcal surplus, you’ll gain half a pound each day.

To have a 1700 calorie surplus, you'd have to be eating over 3000 calories per day.

Yeah guys, it's JUST subtracting the exercise, it's not taking into account what you burn just breathing, so unless you are eating and exercising while dead, it's showing how much of your food was taken up by additional exercise, so what is left would then be subtracted from you BMR and you would have your deficit. Either way, you gotta do math....but if you are in maintenance, it shows you how much more exercise you need to do to reach an equilibrium

My exercise: I match burned calories from my watches data, weightlifting and walking, I use a stopwatch when I do housework and calculate that in too an burned calories.

LOL Dazey, I should have read this before my house-cleaning yesterday. I spent about 3 hours dusting, wiping, sweeping, vacuuming and then mopping.....slipped on the wet floor and twisted my knee again!! Dang thing is all swollen again! It might have taken more than 3 hours but I paid no attention to what time I started, I just know I finished at 3 PM. Next time I will have Alexa run a stop watch timer while I work, she's good for more than just playing music

Ouch!! Hope your knee is ok!!!

It seems to like me more today, I gave it some ice and ibuprofen so not as swollen this morning, still keeping me off my bike and my walk tho.
