DH: is it wrong of me to still be hungry after all that Arby’s?
Me: it’s not wrong but it tells me that you are used to eating more than you need. Nobody really needs 2-3 Arby’s sandwiches plus a shake every meal and snacks. Maybe you should think about FS.
DH: I don’t know.
Me: if you want to I can set it up on your phone for you and you just log everything. When I cook I’ll weigh and log your food at first until you get used to it.
DH: I’ll think about it. What should I aim for? About 5000 you think?
Me: uhhh really? I’d think about 3000 for weight loss or maybe 3500 for maintenance. I’ll look it up for you.

I look it up and it’s 2300-3000.

DH: no way! I’m moderately active not light active.
Me: oh? You must workout more than I thought. Are you still going to the gym 3 times a week for 30 minutes? What else have you added?
DH: I walk a lot for work. I’m at the gym for an hour each time and I’m now going 5 days a week.
Me: didn’t you start going daily just this week? As in today was the first time you’ve went on a Tuesday? Are you saying walking meaning from your office around the house as you talk on the phone with customers?

DH: yes. But I also walk in the field some days and I work hard farming. Me: I’m sorry but you can’t add that in on a daily or weekly basis. Only when you do those activities. Just try logging for one week and you’ll see what I mean. You’ll find you can eat a lot more food at home than you can eating out so much. DH: what is it with me being moderately active? Me: ummm...(calculate it) about 3350. DH oh I bet I’m eating less than that and I do workout hours each week. Me: 5-6 hours a week? (Got the irritated look) I’m sorry honey but I’m not with you at the gym so I need to know what you do to figure it accurately. DH: yes because weight lifting takes 3 hours a week and now 5. Work is at least that much. Me: do you take a break between sets? Are you in the gym for the full hour? Do you stop to answer the phone? DH: of course I rest and take breaks. I’m not a machine! Me: okay I’ll make you a deal. I’ll text you some calculators and you decide which you like. Then keep track of how long it takes for each set and how many sets and about how long you are standing or walking with customers. Then you can do the calculations and you will know exactly what you do as I can’t go with you.

DH:okay. You know I’m right because I am very active. I’m always working or at the gym. Me: I know! You are a very good provider and I’m loving those arms! DH: you know you do! I’ll look up stuff later. I’m tired from gardening (we were there 15 minutes) and my shows on. So... after his 3 tv he may check into all this stuff :). I think I may have gotten through to him that he’s not as active as he claims. His DVR proves it as he has at least 15 hours a week that he records and watches and his manual work is done for the week already. But he’s right.. he’s getting nice arms ;). And now he knows how I feel when he says ‘oh it won’t hurt you to eat out’ and ‘you don’t work out much’ sort of stuff. I’m at the gym 3+ hours a week too ;).

Unfortunately this way is the only way I can make him think about it. Put him on the defensive so he proves me wrong and unintentionally realizes he does have some room for improvement. I’m really hoping he does some research as he has some health issues that would be helped with losing even 10# and working on more muscle and just moving around more in general. The kids miss playing with him and I miss him trying to catch me as I evade him and just little fun games like that. He even asked what was for dinner and how many calories he had for lunch ;). So soon you may see Mr peeper on here ;).

Yep! He knows all this though. He was an athlete from elementary school to graduation. He studied some of this in school. He’s dieted before. He’s done medifast twice. He’s not that big and he’s in a denial phase again. He’s lost 20# and now he’s ready to veg out again which means gaining it all back but he’s going to the gym so he will say it’s muscle. I love him now and I’d love him at 200. But I want him to be honest with me and himself ;). Even if he doesn’t change anything. BP under control.. sort of. Has had heart issues in the past and his scale says 15 for visceral fat which worries me as it’s quite high. He is young but already has knee issues and his back will get out of place. Sometimes a couple times a month and he has to crawl until he can get in to see the chiropractor. I think a few less pounds and a bit more muscle would help those issues.

Denial. De Nile. Two different things. 😂

Yep! He will come around. I just have to make it a competition. Perhaps say I can log more accurately than he for a week. Or I can drop a BF% quicker than he. Of course he will win as he can go whenever and I go around kid activities but I’m totally okay with a loss if it gets him healthier. 🤫

How much does he want to lose?

Oh, this is funny. :D because it's real! I got my husband to join FS, but he never logs his food. He eyeballs his calories. He has lost weight, but wants to lose a few more pounds. I just keep telling myself, he has to do his own thing. Husbands can be so funny. :)

My husband just joined FS yesterday and today was his first day logging food. Correction, my first day logging his food for him, lol. I weighed his supper just like I did mine. He has 12 calories left and said, oh, I'm going over!! lol I'm like, this is your first day and you're already not sticking with it?! Well, doesn't activity give you more? Well, technically yes, but the bigger deficit you have, especially starting out, the faster you will lose. Oy!! This is going to take a while, lol.

Funny how this works. Easy to get in a trap, where we somehow create an illusion of being better than we really are. My long lasting plateau broke, once I started tracking better here on FS.

We’ve all been guilty of delusion haha! My husband is the same way. Best wishes to you both on this journey.

Oh yes husbands can be quite funny :P. He hasn’t given me an amount to lose just that he wants to be in better shape. His idea is like 185. I’ve seen pics of him at 225 as a young man and to be honest he looked sickly thin. Yes he was solid muscle but I’d bet anything under 10% BF. Probably way less. He never sat down back then. I’d say 225-250 would be good as long as he didn’t get so muscular that he lost all his body fat and looked sick again. His legs are like tree trucks with a bit of soft covering and same for his arms. It’s his core that needs work. The visceral fat really scares me as his side has a host of health issues related to weight.

At this point I would log his food and exercise for him! He would just have to keep an accurate record of times at the gym. (Cause we all know we would like to record that bathroom break, those rest breaks and that text break as workout time and have it actually burn more calories but can’t lol). At this point I’d settle for just not wanting to eat out all the time or bring home food and make me feel bad when I don’t eat it. Because at home I limit the snacks I buy and when they are gone the family has to wait until the next shopping day for more. Plus I can make healthier meals if they wouldn’t complain and then raid the snacks!

AND I should point out that we’ve made progress. The kids started stealing my 90-100 calorie snacks instead of chips occasionally. Plus hubby decided to use the protein powder I didn’t care for. He asked today how much he should be having and if it should be in place of a meal. I ALMOST lied and said yes drink that rather than lunch out. But if I lie to him then he might not think about it long enough to decide to join me. Sometimes being honest sucks lol. He’s been eyeing my snacks too and he’s eaten some of the ones I stashed in his office as a healthier treat close at hand ;). Why get up for chips when you have a protein bar handy or a low calorie treat 🤔😁
