Ya know what’s sad? My 62# 4’ tall 9 year old middle child can do an unassisted neutral grip pull up and I can’t! 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳.

She gets LOW marks at school on the fitness exams. Her arms are super tiny. No muscle to be found anywhere on her body! Yet I saw her do this with my own eyes! Yes she had to pump her legs a bit. However my 6’ 266# athletic hubby pumped his legs each and every time and way more (and rolls his eyes when I have to use the bands🙄). My 12 year old is 110#, 5’ and has a ton of muscle compared to her classmates. Her legs can rival some of the boys who run and lift! Her idea of fun is doing pistol squats 😳😳. Yeah I’m NOT taking her challenge as she would never let it go after watching me fall on my arse. Anywho, this child can’t do a pull up with any grip without the bands either. Pretty sure it’s because her upper half isn’t as strong as her lower half and her lower half has most of her weight. Oh and she’s a sz 2 in women’s so pretty small despite being at the high end for her weight/age. Little Macy my 4 yr old tries her hardest but she’s too short for the bands so I have to hold her above my head for her to try. Quite cute!

But I’m quite ashamed of my progress at the moment since my middle kiddo can our ‘pull up’ me 😭 Plus she almost fell the other day. She was using the bands to get more pull ups done and it slipped off her foot. It went behind her and she has a padded behind like her mama so it didn’t hurt her but she almost lost her grip. The stool was still under her and 4’ away is another door frame and just outside the door the bar is in is a heavy wood dresser. I’m a ‘what if’ person so all the things that could’ve happened ran through my mind and of course I banned her from using the bar without an adult present. Did she listen? Nope. Daily she tells me how many she did assisted and unassisted. Perhaps I need to take it down every single day. This child is the only bright spot in my day some days. She brings me coffee so she can sneak a sip. She becomes the mama when I’m sick and loves taking care of me. She’s a straight A student, in the gifted and ambassador programs, rarely acts up.. she’s as close to the perfect child as you can get. It would devastate us all if anything happened to her! So yeah the bar is probably going to get put up or thrown out if she keeps at it alone.

Yeah, take care of that kiddo. We so often have to protect them from themselves. They don't see the danger as we do...mom hormones. But you have nothing to be ashamed of. Just keep building up those muscles (have no idea which ones those would be), and you'll get there. :)

Lol pretty sure I need to build up pecs, biceps, triceps, deltoids, traps and lats. I’m sure there are a ton more I don’t know about like the ones in the forearms and the brachia something or others. I’m also sure the core would help as well. I make myself do 10 assisted pull-ups each day no matter what. Before surgery I was starting at 7 of each grip. After a break of a couple hours I would go back and do another set. Sometimes doing 4 sets in a day. I’m not supposed to be working my pecs at all yet but I do anyway. Once the expander tore through the muscle behind it and started ripping the healed incision 😳. My dr is a bit worried about that again I think. This time I have a softer implant, my skin is stretched out again and the incision has been healed for like 9 months instead of one like before. Don’t really care if I hurt myself and the chances are pretty low with the little I do.

At to the kiddo yes I have to watch her. She just doesn’t get it but she’s only 9. I don’t want her living in fear of being hurt but I wish she would gain some common sense lol. None of my kids have any common sense! ‘Can we put a fork in the microwave to see if it really blows up?’ Uh hun you do realize we could be hurt or it could start a fire right? ‘So? You are here to put it out before it kills us’ 😳 Yeah I could maybe put it out, I could probably get them out without being burned horribly but in the very least I’d have to buy a new microwave and fork haha. Why even take a chance? Once they wanted me to stick a fork in the outlet to see what would happen. The oldest convinced the middle to try it (sometimes I think she’s evil) but thankfully I walked by in time and they both earned a whooping! They haven’t tried anything like that again but always want me to try it lol. I couldn’t stand to lose any of my kids. I hate it when they get scratched up or get sick.

Lol I waited 5-6 months before lifting anything more than 15#. I’ve only doubled that for most machines for upper so alls well. His motto is ‘if it hurts don’t do it’. Mine is more ‘if It hurts then next time go slower and build up’.

Which one? The older almost evil one or the middle super curious one? Who am I kidding, they are both just like me haha. They just got different parts of me! (The oldest got some of Daddy too as he used to convince his older sister to do things like jump off the roof with a tarp for a parachute 😳 lucky they all loved through his stunts lol)

Ah ok :). I’ll be careful ;). Right side is hurting a bit today ebcause I laid on it last night. Skipped the pull ups this morning. Will skip them this evening if it still hurts ;).
