For my keto friends:

I get it. I was there. I was keto/LCHF for a long, long time. I was convinced carbs made me gain weight. I "flipped the carb switch off" and eliminated the desire completely. I was never tempted by all the sweet goodies because I'd convinced myself early on they were unhealthy and therefore filled up on other things instead. All the carbs I got were incidental or from veggies.

Now I present a curiosity poll...

So, which category do you fall into (or create your own):

💚 = Deep down, I like carbs, but...
🚫 = Carbs are bad for me/you.

1. 🚫 Carbs are unhealthy and I am afraid of all the negative effects that result from their consumption (ie: diabetes, fat gain, cholesterol number imbalance, etc.).

2. 🚫 Carbs are somehow counterproductive to my goals and therefore I avoid them.

3. 💚 Carbs are too tempting to me and I want to lose weight, but I keep backsliding because they call to me and I can't resist 😧

4. 🚫 Carbs don't agree with me and make me feel gross... My body feels "cleaner" when I eat primarily fats and proteins.

5. 💚 Carbs cause me to gain weight. Period. Never fails. If I eat more than ___ grams, I'm putting on pounds - it never fails!

I choose #2. It's my choice to avoid them, for the time being. I may choose to add back some "healthy" carbs after I get down to a reasonable weight. But, for now, the carbs I consume will also be "incidental and from veggies." It's what works for me.

I don't think I am half as obsessed by carbs as those NOT on the keto diet LOL

#6 I never consider any one food unhealthy - it's all about moderation - but for me personally my blood sugar readings lowered by 70% when I decreased consuming them daily and that was important for my health.

I eat any and all the carbs I want. Not an issue for me.

I don't think you can convince them, people just refuse to hear the truth. 😕

I also did keto, but it wasn't for me. I am so much better with the calories/macros that DEADPOOL worked out for me. 😊

For me, moderation, balanced, never succeeded. When I eat carp it starts and does not end. keto diet is the best for me

I'm on the fence! I lost more weight in December when my calories and carbs were higher but...I LOVE my bad carbs...not talking about veggies here! I think that they cause me some issues but the more I limit them the worse I do! Not because I lost more in December, I mean when I said that I could have up to 85g I rarely went over and I was often in the 50's and 60's. Now that I am aiming for 30...150 is pretty average! I am obviously not going to give them up but I would like to not feel so "addicted". But it clearly also isn't working for me. I liked the idea but I just can't seem to do as well trying for keto as I did when I was just limiting myself.

I'm number 3, but I believe in a whole foods plant based life. It's a hard line to walk. I did keto for almost a year and it works to lose weight, but I don't think it's healthy to do long term.

I'm going with category #6: SUGAR is so bad for you while eating the "right" carbs is healthy. I was KETO for about a 1 1/2 years and lost about 60lbs. I plateaued for about 4 months until I started incorporating the right carbs into my diet and sticking to an 1800-2000 calorie diet. After that it started falling off consistently. At my heaviest in December of 2016 i was 389lbs. I am now 265lbs in a little over 2 years. I'm not gloating whatsoever but humbly voicing that the right carbs are not bad....sugar is EVIL!!!!

Calories in and calories out. Creating a calorie deficit is key. Learn the truth about how to eat right and healthy. I agree with you Chrispainter. But those struggling do what works best for you. I leave all with a good read https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/51116866_2554449148160158_8048148905973514240_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=69d4ce4fd58a8db0f6687ef9082d2f81&oe=5CFE6040

Number 2: High amounts of carbs are not advantageous to me, right now, for my goals. I’m not against carbs. Some people do really well on them. I, however, am not one of them.

Bad carbs are like alcohol to an alcoholic. Some things you have to avoid in life if you want a better, longer life. You do what works for you. No body is the same as the next body. Everyone reacts differently - do what works for you.

💚 I appreciate carbs from grains, fruits and veggies and enjoy them. I try to avoid excess carbs from sweet desserts, candy and foods with added sugar. Limiting carbs allows me to devote more of my food intake to protein...

💚 Carbs are important for me, without carbs I don’t feel satisfied after a meal. Plus they’re cheap, and I’m broke! I focus more on sodium and added sugar than on carbs.

I am a #4 - grains bother me, as well as too much dairy. I will call my diet lazy keto..LOL. But I am firm CICO - the only real way. I just choose not to pollute myself with too much sugar, salt or processed crap. I would not say carbs are bad for people - just I like to minimize the impact for me.

I eat carbs - any of them - I use moderation in calories and exercise (weights are my fav)

I am #6: Type 2 Diabetic. Reducing my carb consumption via Keto / LCHF WOE, has enabled me to bring my A1c back into the normal range. But I will always have to monitor my diet and BS, to avoid T2D returning.
