I thought this was interesting. All of these diets can work if you can stick to them because of the last two words. It's funny how many techniques we have tried to lose the fat over the years. Don't forget Weight Watchers, the original flexible dieting.

Every diet has an equal & opposite diet 🧐 No wonder people are confused about diets. For almost every diet out there, there is a counter-diet that promotes the opposite message 🙄🙅🏻‍♂️ Vegan vs. Carnivore: Vegans claim that the key to health is to only eat non-animal products, & that animal consumption is one of the driving forces of disease. The Carnivore diet promotes ONLY eating animals and claims that carbohydrates (even fiber!) are one of the main causes of obesity and disease 🥩🥬 8 meals per Day vs. Fasting: The high-frequency feeding crowd state that eating frequently stokes metabolic rate & causes more muscle gain. The fasting crowd states that fasting increases metabolic rate, fat mobilization & is anabolic due to GH increases 🙄⏰ No Carbs After 6PM vs. Carb Backloading: The No-Carbs-At-Night crowd claims that if you consume carbs at night, you won’t expend the energy from the carbs & they’ll be stored as fat. The Carb Backloading crowd claims that if you elevate insulin while cortisol is high in the morning, it will automatically put your body in a “fat-storing” mode 🤦🏼‍♂️🌞 Low Carb vs. Low Fat: Low Fat people believe that dietary fat is a main driver of dyslipidemia and that dietary fat drives body fat gain. Low Carb proponents believe that carbs are the main driver of obesity because of the carbohydrate-insulin model 🤦🏼‍♂️🍳🥞 Clean-eating vs. Flexible Dieting: With Clean Eating, you are only allowed to eat a certain list of randomly & subjectively approved “clean” foods. With Flexible Dieting, you fit a wide variety of foods into your diet; both highly nutritious foods and “fun” foods 🥙🍪 Alkaline Diet vs. Common Sense: With the Alkaline diet, you eat foods that you think will cause your body’s pH to drop. If you have common sense, you’ll understand that even a 0.1 pH drop would be lethal. If your pH drops by about 0.6, you will be dead. ☠️ The take home: Diets only work if they put you in a caloric deficit. None of these diets boost metabolic rate or cause you to “melt fat” 🤦🏻‍♂️

Wouldn’t opposite of low carb be high carb?

Yep. But I guess if you're low fat you'd need to be high carb unless you're drinking nothing but protein shakes for your calories.

Yeah you can be either high protein or high carb

I have tried every single thing on this chart...none of it has worked until now. Not because those diets "don't work" but because they weren't sustainable. That is the real take-away here for me. If I can't keep it going...it doesn't matter how well it works!!!

I think this is why I like your posts so much. This really spoke to me, you never push a diet or knock them down (at least that I've seen). You always seem to be saying do what works for you...if it's working. I love that! ...and the lifting articles...love those. I have to read and reread them just to get as much out of them as possible. Keep 'em coming!!! I'm not cleared to lift yet...still just lifting my own body weight but...I know it's coming!! Once they do the second set of tests is when they start looking at more than just walking and moving to keep your stamina up. I know I lose conditioning (HA) really fast if I'm down for any period of time. I have to walk to feel okay but I can't wait until I can replace it with the lifting...or at least decrease it because the lifting is my main source of energy!! I just remember how much better I felt when I was lifting 4-5 days a week. I'm ready, now I just need to get the body on board!!

Thanks, Katie! I'm just trying to help on here. There is a lot of misinformation still being thrown around, sites like examine.com are amazing. I just try to share the science.
