You know what's curious? People are ok with a babies drinking fortified baby protein shakes all day and seniors drinking Ensure but if you tell people you're getting vitamins from protein shakes or multivitamins it is somehow bad. There is a middle age where we have to get all our vitamins from fruits and veggies or we're doing it wrong. Ok.

LOL - I've not gotten any blow-back from taking vitamins and protein shakes, so I'd not know. If we had to get everything from food, I'd never be able to lose weight!

Same! I'm not cooking 5 meals a day. Oh, you see it a lot, people being down on processed foods while propping up their whole foods.

Yeah- that's a constant on FS. Pushing the whole foods. Even if I had nothing better to do than buy lean meats, fruits, and veggies and cook all day- guess what?- I still wouldn't do it. I'm glad there are other ways to get results that work or I'd still be 300 pounds.

Actually as a nurse, we used to give old people and sure because they couldn’t eat regular food. Ensure it was used and still is used as a tube feeding method. Young children shouldn’t be consuming that because it’s extremely high protein and it’s harsh on the body. For someone like you, who is bodybuilding, protein shakes are essential for you. For people who aren’t working out, if they eat the proper foods, their protein intake will be sufficient enough. Given the kidneys excessive protein, can potentially damage the kidneys. I hope this doesn’t cause frustration anyway, just saying what my nursing experience has taught me.

I'm talking about formula, I was just calling them protein shakes, lol

Also, protein won't affect you negatively if you have healthy kidneys.

"Protein Intake and Kidney Function So, can high protein diets cause kidney damage? Not according to the evidence. Although it was theorized that long-term high protein consumption would cause side effects, clinical trials on human participants do not support this hypothesis. In recent years, there have been several studies that investigated this issue, and they all show no link between protein intake and adverse markers of kidney health." --https://www.nutritionadvance.com/too-much-protein-kidney-damage/

I use 310 nutrition Shakes as a meal replacement at least once a day most days twice and have gotten a few stares and remarks at work. Of course I add kale, spinach, avocado, banana, apples, etc. to my shakes to make them a more satisfying meal replacement. I think there has been so much misinformation and a certain misconception about protein shake use.

Nice. Yeah, I use shakes, fiber one protein bars, quest bars, and fruit as meals all the time

I don't like cottage cheese enough to ruin my cereal with it, Chris. Rather have milk.

Thank you for the information, I’m always up to learning new things. Following you on Fs, I can honestly say that I have learned a lot. And you look amazing, so I’m sure what you’re doing is the right thing to do.

I’m all for whatever diet someone needs to use to lose weight (Whole Foods, restrictions whatever) as long as it works for them and is healthy. I myself couldn’t have lost weight without my protein shakes as I’d need to eat basically all meat which isn’t healthy. And if you think about it pretty much every food is processed or has been sprayed or something. Unless you grow everything yourself that is.

Geez, I hope no one thinks I'm being a snob over my food choices from the pictures. I work from home which lets me cook. It was different when I was in an office setting. Cooking is generally cheaper and tastes better to me, but I try not to pass judgment on others. If I do, I try and keep it to myself. I also like having fun in the kitchen, and I'm probably being annoying with my new toys. Besides, I've been called out for eating dog hair on here. Doesn't get snobbier than that. It does, however, lower the net carbs of the dish.

Hmmmm, is it possible we may be a little judgmental of people who are being judgmental.. "propping up their whole foods," if that's what works for one, is really not much different than propping up Protein & Strength training. Just sayin'

There has been some viable research accumulated suggesting some possible down sides of heavily processed foods, especially with regard to weight issues. While heavily processed foods may not be the devil in disguise whole food devotees may make it out to be, I don't think we can just dismiss some of those finding because we don't agree with it, or like it.

Maybe you are just referencing an either/or thing, someone suggesting we "should" get *all* our protein and vitamins from only whole foods, rather than supplements. I usually avoid highly processed foods, but eat an occasional donut, but I definitely use supplements, a good multi vitamin and protein powders... I do both. Nothing wrong with getting my vitamins and protein from supplements.

I regularly take several supplements. Strong probiotic + acacia fiber + water AM. Protein Fruit smoothie, Chia, Flax, Acacia for Ride + Fulvic acid & minerals. A high quality multi vitamin, daily. Other daily supplements include, B12, calcium, Magnesium.

One of the times when I felt the best was when my dad gave me his protein shakes (he didn't care for them or thought I could use them, can't remember) and I would drink them a few times a week with my hearty lunch at school. I am fine with protein shakes, as I am with supplements. 👍

Diablo - I had a member months ago scoff at one of my posts because on of the elements in my recipe wasn't a whole food. Since then, that same person has conveniently veered off the whole food track. Whatevvv. @Peeper... yes! To each their own. If the advice is constructive, great! to scoff or judge is not ok.

I'm over the top thrilled with the protein I use - and enjoy it EVERY day. It is entered as a snack and is consumed 97% after my workouts.
