If insulin makes you fat then meat makes you fat 🤷🏼‍♂️ ⁣ Many think that carbohydrates automatically cause fat gain due to their insulin response or that we need to avoid insulin spikes at all costs 🙅🏻‍♂️⁣ ⁣ The Carbohydrate-Insulin Model proposes that insulin drives nutrients to be stored as fat, leaving the rest of the body with low energy, causing you to overeat due to low energy levels 🙄. We debunked the carbohydrate insulin model of obesity in depth in my book, Fat Loss Forever (link in bio)’ but hey, it never hurts to crush BS more than once. A study by Holt et al. showed that protein can cause the same insulin secretion as carbohydrates 🍖⁣ ⁣ If insulin caused fat-gain and hunger, then we would see the same “effects” when protein causes an insulin spike… but we don’t 😁⁣ ⁣ In fact, high protein diets are effective at aiding in weight loss and maintaining weight loss 👍⁣ ⁣ Pal et al. (2010) even found that more insulinogenic protein sources led to greater appetite suppression and decreased energy intake 🤗⁣ ⁣ Insulin does not magically cause all things to be stored as fat. It still all comes down to energy balance: if you’re gaining weight, you’re eating more calories than you’re expending ❤️🍭⁣ ⁣ Holt et al. (1997). An insulin index of foods: the insulin demand generated by 1000-kJ portions of common foods. Am J Clin Nutr. 66(5):1264-76.⁣ Pal et al. (2010). The acute effects of four protein meals on insulin, glucose, appetite and energy intake in lean men. Br J Nutr. 104(8):1241-8.⁣ ⁣ Tag an insulin zealot who needs science. Here’s looking at you Dr. Eric Berg 🤡 For the best evidence based information delivered to your inbox, sign up to our newsletter https://www.biolayne.com/newsletter/

I thought it looked familiar! 👍 I've been a big fan of his, too! I used to have a BB.com account back when they were free! Lol

Diablo I read an article on gut microbiome this week & the ZOE test u can get in US (not UK yet) have you read about this?
14 Jul 21 by member: piggy winkle
I haven't read anything on that yet, I figure unless the several experts I follow talk about it I think it may just be another way for people to make money by misleading people with pseudoscience. Similar to how they used to push the blood type diet. You have any links to studies?

Yes! That blood type diet. I tried that 🙄
14 Jul 21 by member: piggy winkle
Oh, interesting. Seems to be more about how to keep us healthy rather than a fat loss aid. I look forward to see what further research brings forth.

I read it as.. you take the test.. they prescribe your diet.. your gut flora improves.. you lose weight.. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And CI less important than absorbed nutrients. But it was long! I may have missed the point.

Ah, I doubt it will change CICO. Here's to hoping. I'd love to be able to eat even more food and stick it to the law of thermodynamics. :D

People who are anti-carb often don't know this. They claim you shouldn't eat any fruit because it will "sPiKe uR inSuLin" and cause any dietary fat to be stored but advocate eating as much as you want (the quack Ken Berry loves to tell people to eat till they're "comfortably stuffed") the fattiest cuts of meat - well, wouldn't that be worse than fruit if the insulin model of obesity holds? Insulin spike, loads of fat coming in = storage in adipose tissue. But we know that high protein works very well on fat loss for most people and even low-carbers acknowledge that most of the time. So let the insulin hypothesis die...

I LOVE how aggressively Layne goes after and refers to the zealots by name (Eric Berg)! YES!!!
14 Jul 21 by member: LaughingChevre
Yeah, I always wonder how dangerous that can be. Like can he sue for defamation? I don't know much at all about how laws work when it comes to that. I hope not cause I like it as well.
14 Jul 21 by member: -Diablo
Not sure but I think probably not because there have been many take-downs of the unscrupulous "Doctor" Eric Berg, especially his advice on how to build muscle and I don't think he's sued anyone yet. I hope Layne keeps speaking the truth.

Lol at carbs being the problem...a sweet potato is almost all carbs (I think), and a slice of pizza is only partially carbs. But which one do we refer to as “carbs” in normal conversation? The slice of pizza, of course! The term “carbs” in normal conversation usually refers to processed food, rather than any food containing carbohydrates!

he can absolutely sue, but he won't because it would bring all the dirty laundry to the forefront. it's a funny balancing act.
