This makes sense to me since I see it first hand. On paper I am close to 6k calories expended per day. In reality it's closer to 4k.

makes sense to me as well ..I guess sport is not so much to get you thin but mostly to put you on 'healthy lifestyle' mood - I remember once reading that an average marathon runner burns ~100 cals/mile ..running 4 hours is like burning 500 cals which is like a normal breakfast 😟..anyhow, just passed by to say thanks for sharing this info 👍🙂

@13dias, Marathon is a bit more than 5 miles. 2600kcal would be closer. Also, normal marathon runner has a body composition tuned not to use too much energy. Runners don't have a lot of muscle mass. A bigger person will use a lot more. Until they start running regularly and their body adapts by shedding weight even from muscle. Running is not an activity I would recommend for weight losers and "forbid" for those who want to get into shape. Combined with weights this negative effect on body composition can be somewhat remedied...

Interesting ..thanks for the details; I guess running was just like a random example of a common sport - 2.6k for a whole marathon def sounds more accurate ..I eat that and more during a bad day 😔😅

I lose weight eating what Chris eats to gain. He doesn't eat very much as evidenced by his recent struggles. :P

700? Looks like your logging averages at 1300 or so. I wouldn't advise anyone go below 1200.

As an exercise science major, I can tell you the biggest benefits of exercise are keeping your bones & muscles strong, and keeping the cardiovascular system running. These contribute greatly to overall health, but true, not so much on weight loss. It's still about 80% diet & 20% exercise, but I think that 20% is very important!

Of course, this was definitely not posted to dissuade anyone from exercising. I'm obviously a huge proponent of it.

The overweight and obese have a lot of extra weight to carry around every minute of the day. It's tricky to figure out how many calories that requires. It certainly makes it more of a chore to 'exercise''.

I think I should start wearing a weighted vest around the house to burn more calories. Additionally is would be a great fashion statement.

I’d also say that not being home whilst exercising helps me not eat/drink. Water diet at the gym.

Sorry Diablo, I was being silly, Only when I’m sick do I ever have a 700 day! Today it will be at least a 1500 day for sure, so putting some steps in. You do so much and with the kind of job you have, how do you stay sane?🙃👍

I think people need to reframe their idea of "exercise" though. The formal sessions most of us tend to think of as exercise probably require less energy than we think, especially we are out of shape, don't have a high work capacity, and are doing moderate intensity cardio with pauses/breaks and not the HIIT we think we are doing ;) But, increasing physical activity is pretty awesome for maintenance. Better mood and personally, I find it easier and more enjoyableto move a bit more than be super restrictive with my diet.
