Debbie Cousins's Journal, 04 Jan 22

Temperature this morning is 17 degrees! Got 3-5" of snow yesterday. NOT looking forward to going out in this to do my price monitoring jobs this morning; but, my husband is being kind enough to go out and warm the car off for me and scrape the ice from the windshield.

Made a nice pot of Navy Beans yesterday. Had some after toast this morning to warm myself up. Will probably have another bowl after I get back in from the cold! They're very high in fiber, and my digestive system is very happy when I eat them.

My weight was actually down a tad this morning after getting a good clean-out yesterday. Any weight loss right now is purely by accident, as I haven't started changing my eating patterns at all yet. The time will come, though, and it probably won't be too far away.

Praying that all you who DO have goals already set will be successful in meeting them - daily, and in the long haul.

Thanks for the prayers! I have 2 months to lose 22 lbs in 2022 to meet my Healthy Wage bet. 2-22-2022 is my deadline. Is it doable? I'll need your prayers and support!

Hi Debbie, I'm inspired to make a pot of navy bean soup now. Not thinking of goals just yet, only next steps. For me that is tracking and adding a little exercise to my usual habits.

Looking forward to you getting in touch with your discipline for your health's sake. Come on Debbie, get back on the wagon with me. Patriotpaul: When I was doing Healthy Wage last year with Debbie, at the end I had to be extremely, extremely strict. I did not fast like Debbie, but it was the next thing to it. In fact, I was willing to fast for a short time but found if I only had eggs for brunch then meat or soup and salad for dinner I made it. I did not want to lose the money. But being so strict at the end made me cut loose when it ended and then I did not regain control for 6 months and gained it all back plus 4 lb. Oh, by the way, I do Intermittent Fasting 16/8 but right before the end, I was fasting 18 to 22 hours a day. I suggest you get stricter now unless you want to kiss your money goodby. Yes, you can do it but you will have to suffer. But you are going to suffer either way. Either suffer tolerating the hunger but enjoying the benefit at the end, or suffer the consequences of wishing you had. I will pray for you and Debbie both. Likewise I need a lot of prayer.

@patriotpaul, you've got this. 22 pounds in two months is an ambitious job, but it is doable. I'm praying for your success! @snowwhite100, glad to see you posting. It is a first step for me, as well. @JovialJ, I make my Navy Beans in the Instant Pot -- no need to soak them ahead of time! Just rinse a pound of them (look for any rocks, which my husband calls "looking the beans), put them in 8 cups of water, add 1 Tbsp. of Olive Oil (to keep them from frothing up too much). I put in 6 slices of salt pork fat back and 1/3 pound of cut-up country ham for seasoning. Set to Pressure Cook for 40 minutes, then natural release. (Remove the fat back when they are done.) Perfect every time. I'm about to finish my second batch this week, and I may end up making a third (I DID share about a pint of them with my mother-in-law).
