Debbie Cousins's Journal, 31 Mar 22

Set a new walking record yesterday - 2.5 miles (record was 2.1 miles). To accomplish it, I got up from my recliner every 30 minutes and walked 1/4 of a mile (about 500 steps). My knees weren't too bad when I woke up yesterday, but they started hurting more and more as the walking progressed. Still hurting this morning. I'm such a whiner!

Got in eight 8-oz bottles of water yesterday, ate 5 servings of fruits and vegetables (thanks to a fruit smoothie and the baby lima beans I cooked in the InstantPot yesterday morning). Things are going well in MOST areas of my Journey.

But, then there's the weight. Seems to be slowly going UP a little each day. It was 257.2 this morning! That. means I've gained back 59.2 of the 60 pounds I had lost. So far, diet-wise, I've just been concentrating on getting IN fruits and vegetables and the water - and haven't restricted myself in anything else I've wanted. Apparently, that plan isn't working so well. Going to have to reevaluate. Not sure what path I am going to take, but I know I'm going to have to change directions. I guess the salty cashews, peanuts and pretzels will have to go. I feel like I'm retaining a lot of water and that's probably why. Of course, the butter beans are pretty salty, too - cooked with some salt pork fat back and country ham. I do NOT want to go above 258!

Going to have my 6-year-old grandson spend the night tonight. Getting him at 3pm, so I probably won't get much done exercise-wise after he arrives. He likes me to be doing everything he does WITH him, so that's where my energy will be expended. I'll see how much walking I can get in before I have to leave to go get him at 2:40.

Hope today is the highlight of your week!

Nuts are very dense food. To get fiber I sometimes have chia seeds. I like them. Not sure if you have tried them

Good job Debbie! You might want to invest in some knee compression sleeves to help with the pain.

You are making such good changes and I'm sure that as you continue to expand the different areas of your life to form 'mini habits' like you have with the walking, you will start to see weight loss as well. Salt is NOT our friend for weight loss and I battle with it every day myself! ⚔
