Shrewdness's Journal, 04 Apr 22

On the drive home from the mountains I was remembering, just before Covid hit, in November of 2019, I was in the hospital for a week.
For some reason I couldn’t walk, and was told they will keep me there till they figure it out and have me up and walking again.
I saw the doctors for maybe 15 minutes each day, but it was the nurses I relied on to take care of me and treat me with kindness, as I needed their help for using the restroom and to have water by my side always. I was so blessed, nurses that joked with me and took such good care of me. 💕
I am posting this joke as so so many people on this app are nurses. I didn’t get to go back and thank them, but I remember their kindness.
I just want you to know you are appreciated, that people remember your kindness!!!
I am sure there are Karen’s out there that wreck your day, but there are so many more that may not get a chance to let you know how much you are appreciated!
Then bang, 2020 arrived, it became the year of the nurse, the poor beaten up nurse, not what they expected, some not even surviving. Nursing is not for the empty of heart...nor the faint of heart, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your care and patience. It would not be possible to praise nurses too highly!👍👏🌼🌸👏❤️❤️❤️
A serious post from Shrewdness, for if you save one person, you’re a hero, save hundreds, you’re a nurse.❤️👏👏👏 Blessings!🙏
Have a Marvelous Monday!🌺
Nurses can’t fix stupid… but they can sedate it. 😆

Shrewdness, I am forwarding this post to beloved Nurses I know and everyone else I can think of and everyone ..... who among us has never needed the kindness of a Nurse?

I am in Awe of Nurses. I can not think of one thing they don't do for us when we are in need. The list is ... wow. Thank you from my whole heart that is beating thanks to an off duty nurse.

Thank you all for the kind words. I worked as a nurse for about 45 years and loved every single second of it. I will always maintain my license and my malpractice insurance (4 million dollars)— because the job does not “retire” when you do— from cardiac arrests in the grocery store to delivering babies in parking lots. Something is always happening.

Mightymurse—- this story about the nurse is a horrible situation and like everyone else, I only know what I read. She did the right thing by reporting the error so that appropriate attempts at lifesaving treatment could at least be started. Many people say that this could have happened to any nurse and that absolutely is not true. It could not and did not happen to me. She made a series of poor decisions and mistakes that ended in one of the most horrific deaths possible for a patient. There were a series of mistakes made by the hospital with system problems and trying to cover the mistake up. The bottom line is that there is a strict protocol associated with giving medications—- she failed to follow that protocol more than once in this tragic scenario. I am a by the book type of person/nurse. If there is a safety protocol I follow it. If I am unsure of the medication or the dose I have ZERO problem getting help or seeking clarity. She did none of those things. Nor would I ever be able to be pressured by anyone to give a patient the med that was actually ordered for them and NOT MONITOR THEM— the physician was guilty in even suggesting that the patient would not require monitoring. I would NOT have given that med if I wouldn’t be allowed to set up monitoring equipment. I cannot speak to the charges, or anything else else about this case or what the sentencing might be. All I know is that there were multiple mistakes made that resulted in this patient’s death and it would NOT have to happened to a majority of nurses. A series of mistakes by the nurse, the ordering physician and the hospital. We are all following this case closely.

Yes all true… but setting a precedent like this puts all future (mistakes) grounds for criminal prosecution…. To the smallest errors whether a sentinel event or not

Mightynurse — I don’t actually believe that to be true.

Javadali, except for this app, I don’t really know any nurses personally. Just like firemen, I don’t know any, but so thankful they are there.🌸 Tell your SIL thanks!💕

LivinBreezy, that’s why Kenna keeps her license and insurance updated so she can help others out there in day to day living. Hope she’s around when I need help.👍

Kenna, I know you have worked very hard as a nurse. Did you ever get tired of always being on your feet? Many people are grateful for your help!👍👏👏🌺🌸🌼

MightyMurse, I watched the whole trail, from jury selection to conviction. She was guilty of being careless she didn’t even really look at the medication. She had a total lack of attention. Plus, the doctor and hospital too where part of her downfall. She confessed from the moment it happened. She really has suffered, but when you have another person’s life in your hands, you can’t be indifferent. We don’t know what her sentencing will be yet, but I don’t think it wii be harsh as she has been honest and remorseful. She was very careless, I don’t think nurses have to worry. But it’s a wake up call to pay attention to what they’re doing and to the patient. MightyMurse, she was extremely careless, I don’t believe any nurses are in danger of being in this situation. The doctor should be in trouble too, along with the medical center, all were at fault. It will be interesting at sentencing as her life has already been ruined. You are a MightyMurse- no worries!💪☀️

Shrewdness— I recognized early in the game that my legs and feet were going to be a big deal in my profession. I started wearing support hose to work (and when I hike long distances) to support my vascular system. I also wore a brand of shoe called SAS —when I knew ahead of time that I had cases that could go 24 hours. They are really expensive but worth it. Otherwise I wore ASICS all terrain 👟 that have great support and replaced the insoles with a good over the counter orthotic. I never had any leg problems. I did get planter fasciitis once— what a killer that was.

MightyMurse I have to agree with Kenna, that it doesn’t set a precedent, for that was not any small error, and she was so very negligent she totally admits it. No safe guards either where there to prevent this from happening. Just a disaster waiting to happen at that center.😢

3dkids2, when you’re just trying to get better, and being thankful to the nurse, they may not realize how truly grateful you are. 💕
