"Here are some AMAZING pictures from a new study of masters level athletes. The top pic is a cross section of the thigh of a 40 year old triathlete. The bottom is a triathlete at 70. The middle is a sedentary 74 year old man."

Currently a 74 old sedentary man! Thank you Diablo. This post got me going this morning. 👍

What an eye opener! I am slowly getting back into exercise, I hate that it feels like such a drag but I know it is what is going to keep me moving as I age.

Vcabral2– think outside the box and see if you can include more physical activities into your routine that are fun and include family and/or friends. It really helps with keeping the motivation going. I walked with a friend the other day that I hadn’t seen for a while and we lost track of time and did two miles further than we had planned.

My grandmother and my great aunt were basically 1 year apart in age. One chose to be active, swimming and dancing into her 90's, the other wasn't sedentary by today's standards, but didn't choose to be active. The former lived to 100, almost 101, and played piano up until a week before she died, the other spent two decades with a walker, then a wheelchair then bedridden because she didn't have the same fight in her. No judgment, but I choose to be as active as I can because witnessing the decline was eye opening. It's also why my heroes/heroines tend to be those quiet athletes, like the 92 year old man skiing in the Canadian Rockies with us, or my paraplegic former coworker who still does open water ocean swims. Move it or lose it.

Yeah, there is a 80+ year old man who goes to Planet Fitness. Still lifting impressive weight and getting around easily. It's great to see.

I hope my squats, lunges and deadlifts will keep my thighs looking like that as I get older! Amazing!

I don't wanna know what the inside of my thighs look like... no one's chopping my legs in half to satisfy my curiosity 😕

What’s astounding (and scary) but less obvious is the change in bone mass on the 74 yo.

My BF I will be 84 next week. He still works 3 days a week transporting high end cars for a car rental company all over LA and Orange County, then goes home changes clothes and hikes hills or runs stairs for an hour. On his days off he typically hikes in the morning and has a resistance training program he does. He has thighs that are solid rock. He has done this all of his life. No meds, no ailments.

That's wonderful, Kenna! I couldn't picture you with anyone who didn't take care of himself.
