Diet Day 7: Let me tell you a tale of misery and triumph!

It was nearly 9:00pm on a Sunday night. I ached to my bones after spending the whole weekend cleaning and catching up on six months worth of yard work in preparation for my daughter's 1st birthday party the following weekend. The eggs on toast I had eaten nine hours earlier seemed like a distant memory, most especially to my stomach. My family and I were finally on our way home after spending the previous two hours restlessly warming surprisingly uncomfortable chairs in the emergency ward waiting room of a public hospital. Waiting for me at home, cold on the stove, was the dinner I had so very nearly finished cooking before my daughter's ibuprofen-defying fever forced us out in to the cold for a spontaneous family excursion. It was a 25-minute drive home from the hospital, though we were not long underway when my weary wife looked over to me in the drivers seat and spoke the words, "Can we drop in to Red Rooster?"...

To cut the long-winded version of a short story short, I dutifully pulled in to Red Rooster, ordered what my stomach insisted must be the most delicious deep-fried chicken to have ever existed up to this point in human history, and then drove 20 minutes home in a car 'hot-boxed' with the smell of mouth-watering fried chicken as my family enjoyed their dinner around me... But I fucking did it! I made it home without snaking even a single chip! Not a single bite!

In my journal entry a week ago, I included an important rule for myself to follow during this diet: "Don't use hardships as an excuse to break your diet. This ruins your every diet. It only takes one excuse." I know it may not seem like it to some, but this was a bloody big achievement for me! In the past, I've used excuses as piss-weak as getting stuck in traffic to justify breaking my diet. To endure such a miserable, laborious weekend and not crack; to stick to my guns, to not 'reward myself' at the end of it... I finished this weekend with an absolute win!

i love how you write. spicy, easy to read, rich in pictures, just great. and I want to congratulate you for your strength. That's really quite remarkable and you can build on that. whenever you feel like it or are about to break your resolutions, thinkto that evening where, against all odds, you showed the strength of a hero. and your child get well soon.

@mmhh2 Aww, thanks so much for the warm fuzzies! It's just what I needed before bed (since hot Milo is unfortunately no longer an option). I think this win is a good sign that I'm taking my diet far more seriously than I have in a long while.

Every fortnight when my partners kids come over for the weekend, they’ll order KFC! It’s my most favourite fast food in the universe, but like yourself, I’ve managed to resist temptation. My goal is set and the hard work has started. I can’t undo all the good I’ve done with a bucket of Kentucky!!! Maybe in a few months!!!!🤣🤣🤣

Thank you all for your kind words - much appreciated! The only thing I write regularly are technical user guides, so it's been fun getting a little creative with this. :D
