Debbie Cousins's Journal, 20 Jan 23

In three days, I will have two anniversaries: first, it will have been seven months since I got back on track and started dieting (after a year off the rails); second, it will be three months since I started walking for exercise at least a mile a day (up to 2.5 miles a day now!). I’m amazed that God has enabled me to meet these milestones! I am not, by nature a motivated, determined or disciplined person! Some of you are able to diet or exercise in your “own” strength, but I cannot. I pray God continues to propel me forward, and that I don’t ever forget that my strength comes from the Lord.

On track to stay under 1,600 calories a day this week. Next week, I’m planning to try to stay under 1,500.

All for His glory, and I believe happier, healthier us pleases Him and is a testimony to others that "I can do all things through Christ, who strengtheneth me". Keep going!

I’m happy for you! Especially about the walking. I know everyone “diets” differently, but several nutritionist I’ve heard recommend not going under 1500. They said our bodies will begin to retain more weight/fat because it’s starting to go into survival mode. Just a thought.

I'm so glad for you! Please pray for me Debbie, I am so miserable tonight. Tomorrow, Saturday is the day of the Memorial Luncheon for our daughter. It's at a Chinese Restaurant so that takes most of the pressure off me but I'm still miserable. I bought 2 big cheesecakes, and fresh blueberries for on top tonight and 3 orchids for the tables. I was shopping for 3 hours afternoon for my friend and for us. Yesterday and part of today I was going through old pictures to find ones (of our daughter) to take tomorrow. What a trip down memory lane! It hurts, I hurt, and I can't even think straight about what I will say at the Memorial. I do have a pastor speaking, the same one as for our son's funeral. We are so old and isolated that there will only be 19 of us. There were 160 at our son's funeral. I don't want to go, I don't want to face it. My chest hurts, my head hurts, my face hurts, even my teeth hurt. I haven't even picked out what I am going to wear. And I have one more store to go to in the morning for my sick friend. I'm binging again and have had so much food and sugar my stomach is upset.

@Snowwhite100, praying for you! God will be with you, and will get you through this monumental hurdle. He has always sustained you, and will continue to do so today at the memorial service for your daughter. Soon, the event will be behind you. Until then, don't even worry about your dieting. Give yourself time to grieve. I will update the church tomorrow, that you are struggling. We only have about 20 people on a Sunday morning, but we've got some faithful prayer warriors in our membership. If you get overwhelmed, try this technique I learned when I was in the mental hospital for a week a couple years ago: Take a deep breath and name 5 things you can see (I can see my dining room table & chairs, the presents I have wrapped for my grandson, etc.); name 4 things you can hear (I can hear the ceiling fan, the cars going by on the road, etc.); 3 things you can touch/feel (the rough texture of my couch, the breeze from the fan, etc.); 2 things you can smell (the Jergen's lotion on my skin, the fragrance from the dryer sheet on my shirt); and name one thing you can taste (the KitKat piece I just ate). It helps to draw your attention to the moment. Hope that helps.
