oh dear, end of month. I have a wonderful trusty sidekick who I've organised 2 payrises for so far.... too bloody right. We went through some things at the start but now I feel like I've forgotten most of the daily tasks I used to do. Perhaps if she is failing at one task, swop it out for another? We have to mother staff nowadays, they come to us barely able to blow their noses. If we don't mother them, they do nowt to grow.

SweetAzGal, my office is in the back, so it’s like I am hiding.😁 

Bubbles, I hate end of month!!! I used to be prepared, but we have grown to the point that I am never ready for it now. That’s why we hired this gal, yet she seems lazy to me now, I don’t want to give up on her. She has half a brain and it’s hard to find people now days. She just needs to WORK! Next week she needs to start answering phones since she has so much time on her hands!!! It’s true though. I will have to mother her to make her get going on a better road. @shrewdness sidekicks are ... a mixed bag. :D I have some very courageous conversations. I address everything. Gently, kindly, talking about 'next steps' and never criticising... every now and again I take mine out for a 'team meeting' down at the cafe and buy her all of the cakes and suchlike. When we do overtime I buy her KFC, delivered. She trusts me, she works hard for me, I'm a line manager she wants to do a lot for. Gots to treat them like they are little and fragile, and always assume they are anxious, or frightened, or shy, and then if they're lazy there's nowhere for the little shits to hide.. .oops did I say that out loud? But also, if they are overwhelmed, they are able to talk freely. Also: I know here it takes upwards of a year to train them up, because where I work is so complicated. Very big company using Tech One which is an australian piece of megalithic accounting software that I feel they dragged out of an ancient swamp one day for us to use... it barks like a dog. And all the company processes and procedures... omg. I've been here 10 yrs and I learn something new every day. :D I created a task share sheet that has to be ticked every month, we share and tick and know where we're at. Given that it's me working late the night before journal close, I mop up what she can't do, and she knows that I have done it. Every month she does more. Last month she did all my payrolls for me because I took leave. Slowly... slowly... What did my mum used to say? softly, softly catchee monkey. :D
