Debbie Cousins's Journal, 29 Aug 23

Went hog wild and pig crazy today. Knew it was going to be a bad day by 5am. I ended up having three mediocre muffins, 3 servings of peanut butter pretzels, a serving of Fritos Honey BBQ Twists, a piece of a KitKat bar, a couple Danish Butter Cookies - about 3,000 calories in all. I was SO tempted to just NOT record what I ate, but I’ve done it every day since 6/23/22, and I dare not break the habit! Don’t know what got into me. I didn’t even eat ALL of what I wanted. This is the way I use to would eat every single day. Maybe it’s that I know I’m approaching the 190’s again, and that I’ll HAVE TO straighten up very soon. I can NOT go back there, because right on it’s tail of the 200’s! Ok, going to go back to bed now. I’ve done all the damage I can do for one day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day - it almost HAS to be!

Debbie, I'm hoping you're not going to just throw all your hard work to the wind. 💚💛💜

It sounds simplistic, but try deep, slow breaths to gain control. Good luck.

This too will pass. Today is a new day to knuckle down and begin anew. Fingers and toes crossed for you.

And get that cr#p out of the house. It's not good for anyone: frankenfood. Too tempting to have around and anti-nutrition.

I lose control too occasionally. My penance when this happens is that I force myself to journal everything that I ate. Then, I tell myself I will recover from this and get back on track to losing weight. Keep at it.

It’s ok! It is hard to break bad habits. Keep trying. Today is your new day.

Debbie, obviously I am NOT a weight loss expert or I wouldn't weigh what I do. The only thing I can tell you is that you're an amazing woman, more than a number written on a scale. Anyone who walks 3 miles using a walker is pretty amazing (and you put me to shame with that). This being said, the only thing that keeps me from eating certain things ie a half gallon of ice cream, is not having it in my house. Remember, tomorrow is another day and with God you can do this ❤️

Sorry Deb, if I came of overly harsh. You are doing amazingly well, especially considering your surgery. I'm rooting for you!

Hugs…This happens to me too, and I make myself track it anyway. I agree with rcguenth. It’s best to keep it out of the house. If it weren’t for my hubby, there would never be temptations in the cupboards, but since he lives here too, I just have to make sure to have healthy options for me that I can enjoy without getting into trouble. 🙏🏻Praying you have a better day. 💗

And what would be the point of having had your knee fixed— if will just fail again if you don’t figure out a way to get yourself under control. What a waste of insurance monies that would be, but sadly, it happens to many. They loose weight to qualify for the surgery the just gain it all back

Did you get in your car, drive to the grocery store, and put all that in your cart? If you can plan a binge, you can plan a decent meal for you and your spouse. Think of your favorite meals and cook up some of those. Butter, gravy, biscuits, cheese sauce, any creamy indulgence that's not Kit Kats or salty, crunchy bag-n-box snacks will at least feed your cells. Please alter course. Make Thanksgiving dinner early. Make a pie if you want. Rolling out the crust will at least be exercise and you will have the satisfaction of creating something delicious. Stop losing weight. It's okay. Starting feeding yourself better.

The snacks seem like mostly crunchy types. I go for them when highly stressed. Maybe you could try substituting healthy crunchy foods.

Why did you have a bad day? Figure that out first and try to manage or resolve that issue. Sleep deprived? Did something impact you emotionally? Depression? If you didn’t eat enough the day before maybe you triggered your ghrelin (hunger hormone) to spike. So make sure you eat enough. find less unhealthy binge food. Drink a sugar free soda (or several). Melt chocolate over strawberries, popcorn or even corn flakes. Coco pops with milk are bad, but better than KitKats! Popcorn, crackers etc are great dorito subs. Lastly, don’t hate yourself. We are all driven by our hormones or habits. Sometimes you lose the fight, and that’s ok. But just win more fights than you lose and you will win in the end!

Debby, do you have someone in the house that won’t let you clean out the pantry and fridge to keep only things you need to eat? I get that, unfortunately, I get blamed for not having any willpower. And you can’t hide that food in the garage, because the mice will eat it.

Thank you for sharing the good, and not so good! Looks to me, from reading some of your entries, that you’ve come along way. Congrats! And kudos for keeping it real. (I would not have gotten to my current weight without troublesome food days)
