MAJOR stress again last night when I woke up at 11pm and saw 15 messages from my twin friends! Long story short: my grand daughter’s dad had called them and basically said they were never seeing Maebie again. She is their LIFE, and they were absolutely hysterical and devastated and felt they had no reason to live. My husband and I prayed about it first, and then both took a nerve pill, and called her dad at 11:30, and we talked for over an hour. End result: Maebie can’t go anywhere with them for a month (because she’s grounded) and after that, ONLY if they have spoken personally to him first and gotten permission. They CAN see her at our house when she’s here, as long as they’re all upstairs here with us. Will write more in Comments.

The twins are very naive and trusting. (Theyre 73, btw, and never had any children or grandchildren. Mae fulfills all those dreams for them.) They think Maebie can do no wrong, and they have a very hard time saying no to anything she wants. The parents think they were complicit in the scheme for her to go to this party and stay overnight at a boy’s house. I think they were just totally duped by Mae’s web of very convincing lies. We talked to them for almost 2 hours on Sunday, to try to find out their side of the story, and think they were (mostly) innocent victims in something they didn’t realize was happening. When I texted them afterward with the results of the call, their hope was restored, and (even though there will be restrictions now) they were elated that Maebie still gets to be the center of their life. Whew! Rough night! I did NOT eat anything, though, and I only drank one can of Diet Coke through the 3-hour ordeal!

What a mess! Why punish these senior women just because Maebie did something wrong? I think you are right. Maebie deserves to be grounded. And hopefully the twins will not be so trusting now.

God bless you for your care and concern for your granddaughter and your friends, the twins. Life can be so hurtful. I'm praying for the whole situation, especially Maebie. It's heartbreaking for you and your husband. I pray for Maebie's ultimate good, which is of course her salvation. I know that is your desire. Unfortunately, much may need to occur in the meantime.

When my children were young, I always called the parents to verify any plans my children were telling me about. Eliminated any chances of deception.

Ditto shirfleur. Same here. Even trustworthy teens have hormonal urges and peer influence. Hope it gets better Debbie.
