I avoided the cake, but had a traditional cream tea - I used to love them, but this time I found it far too sweet. Hopefully I won't crave them too much in the future.

Sounds like your taste buds have changed and/or you have been staying away from sweets for an some time. When I have certain deserts nowadays, I get a buzz which is fun and scary.

The English more argue as whether you should put the jam or the cream on your scones (pronounced scOWns or scons depending too!). I also broke tradition and had it with coffee.
