Debbie Cousins's Journal, 17 Dec 20

Hi friends. Hope everybody is doing well on their Christmas preparations. I've got everything done (except the Christmas Eve cooking for our get-together). I've already made and frozen the desserts (fudge and Cherry Cheesecake Tarts). The kids also want me to make Puppy Chow, which I will probably do since I have all of the ingredients left over from LAST year (and expiration dates are all still good).

We'll probably have the same covid-related stressors as we did for Thanksgiving, but for Christmas, I just don't care. We're having it here at MY house (less spacious), and we'll wear masks except while eating. If my son and his wife and my twin friends aren't comfortable with that setup, they don't have to come. It's up to them, and I really DON'T CARE what people decide. I'm not going to bend over backwards to try to accommodate people, like I did at Thanksgiving. (The twins STILL didn't come for Thanksgiving, in spite of elaborate accommodations having been made.)

I'm trying to get my head in a space where it will be ready to start eating properly after the holidays. So far, I'm not there and don't feel like I WILL be, but I MUST do something, and SOON. My weight is already skyrocketed to 258 and I am afraid it may hit 260 before the year is over. I WILL buy all of the things I need to eat before the new year, and will get rid of all the things I shouldn't have in the house.

Ok, just wanted to check in to let you know I'm still alive. Hope you all are doing well and are ready to get a great start on the New Year!

Debbie, so glad to hear from you. I like your attitude 💛. Enjoy Christmas regardless of others choices. And I gotta know, what's puppy chow?

Hang in there, Debbie. I haven't been logging on FS as you know for a while, but still see your updates. I know that the new year will bring fresh resolve for you. Your Daily Accountability challenge helped me, and I hope that my encouragement and prayers will help you.

Enjoy Christmas, Debs, I too would like to know what is "puppy chow"? Remember two things: 1. we are all here with you and 2. the weight loss is a life sentence, not a death sentence!

Please stay safe and well. Sorry that you feel so strongly about everyone else's choices for staying safe. Just do what is safest for you. My cousin died this morning. Almost certainly because someone had to go to a Thanksgiving celebration instead of staying safely at home. Please wear masks. If there are people here that aren't in your day to day, please keep your distance. We value your life and want you around to champion on in the new year.

Ok, first @aintgotaname and @janetofnq, Puppy Chow is just Chex cereal (usually Corn Chex, but can use Rice, Wheat or a combo), tossed in a mixture of melted chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter, then coated with powdered sugar. NOT exactly a weight-loss friendly dessert, but my kids really like it AND it's not something I'm addicted to, so it shouldn't be too hard to handle. Now, if I put a bunch of mixed nuts into it, that would be another story! Thanks for the encouragement, @metamora, @jeannieselby and @bearnoggin. Regarding the Christmas get-together, it turns out that my twin friends ARE going to come, but just for a short time. They will not eat with us, but will fix a plate before everyone else serves themselves and they'll take it home to eat. My son and his wife are a little miffed with my daughter and her husband because of the Thanksgiving conflict, but I think (I HOPE) they are adult enough to be able to put aside their differences and come together for the preservation of family tradition. We all made it through Thanksgiving with nobody getting sick, and should be able to do the same for Christmas. We'll wear masks until we eat, and then put them back on afterward. I'm also going to move my living room furniture farther apart, which should give each family unit their own 6' of cushion space. @janetofnq, I LOVE your saying, "Weight loss is a life sentence, not a death sentence!" I sometimes get melodramatic over "having" to "diet" and feel very deprived. Truth of the matter is, I'm blessed have the resources to be able to buy ANYTHING I need to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Not everybody has that luxury. Merry Christmas to all! Only two more Daily Accountability Challenges for this year and then on to the 2021 Challenges! WOOHOO! So many of you have done a FANTASTIC job of sticking with your programs! I'm hoping (and praying!) that I'll get back on track either right after Christmas, or at least by January 1st.
