Debbie Cousins's Journal, 29 Mar 21

There's the rest of that 5 pounds I was expecting to put back on in water weight and undigested food. It didn't help that I went to bed at seven and woke up at MIDNIGHT. I laid in bed for almost two hours trying to go to sleep and then just went ahead and went ahead and got up for the day. Usually, during those extra hours of sleep, I would have peed at least once more, and probably twice. Plus, had Cracker Barrel for lunch yesterday (lots of salt content). Put it all together, and there you have it. Not discouraged. Thankfully, with all the reading, I knew what to expect, and wasn't surprised. Still, a 10-pound loss for a 12 day fast. I'm pleased with that!

Easter will be here next Sunday, and I'm making my 2nd favorite dessert in the world: 4-Layer Chocolate Dessert. It is a little over 500 calories a slice (3"x3"), but I'll be fitting it into those days, except during the time I'll be fasting. That will help with the "Feasting" part of "Fast, Feast, Repeat." Should aid in getting my metabolism set-point raised. MOST of the time, I will be having low-calorie or sugar-free desserts WITH my evening meal (in the same 1-hour eating window). Once summer gets here, I'll be enjoying fresh fruits in season. I think strawberries are next, and then CHERRIES! Another mantra from the same book is "Delay, Don't Deny." It is so freeing to know I can have ANYTHING I want - I just have to have it at the right time (i.e., when not fasting).

Hope you all will have a lovely Easter. After church, we're having a big dinner at my MIL's house, followed by a giant Easter hunt for the kids. Fun times and family memories being made.

Yes, a bit of rebound is to be expected, and 10lbs for 12 days is AWESOME!! Well done!! I have strawberries planted, since last fall, and about 20 plants survived all the freezing, so I'm hoping to get some fruit this year. But it's the tomatoes I'm most looking forward to, and anxious about, since I know it's going to be hard to keep my carbs down then. I LOVE tomatoes. Can't do cherries though; I have an aversion to them since a childhood vacation trip (terrible car sickness after eating cherry pie, while traveling across country in a station wagon with the other 6 members of my family; loved the trip, hated the ride and the constant nausea) and just have no desire to overcome it. I miss Easter hunts with my kids and grand-kids. Such fun times!!
