Debbie Cousins's Journal, 14 May 21

Just a half a pound today (Day #12). Still feeling great, PTL! Been in ketosis since day #4, and "high" ketosis (8 mmo/l) since day #7.

I've been deliberately trying to be more active the past few days. Vacuumed the pool again yesterday - still getting some "stuff" settling on the bottom. The vacuum bag that comes with the pool vac has a pretty loose weave. The "sock" that fits over the skimmer basket has a tighter weave. So, I made one of the socks into a vacuum bag, by sewing around the top edge with yarn and making it tie-able - and it WORKED! It was able to capture much smaller particles and pasty stuff from the bottom of the pool. I felt pretty clever for thinking of the idea. Yesterday I also finished pulling weeds along a 26' front edge of the landscaping tiles. My spray weed killer arrived yesterday afternoon, so now I can spray all the areas where I yanked up weeds, and hopefully, they will keep from coming back. I also swept grass (from the lawnmower) from off the back half of the pool area.

Today, our goal is to measure (my job) and cut (my husband's job) several more bricks to fill in close to the pool. Then I have to put them in place. I will have to carry the bricks (16 pounds each, if I recall correctly) to my hubby and then to their designated location. It doesn't SOUND like much, but I usually work up a good sweat doing it

I'm very happy that I've been able to keep my Diet Coke consumption down to just one 12-oz can a day. I'm drinking between 12-16 cups of water a day, also, so it probably dilutes any "badness" the DC is having. I'm still much colder, so about 4 of those cups of water go into making hot tea.

Yesterday, I came up with an idea of something very special to do with the two younger grandchildren -- take them to Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg! It is a huge indoor water park, and I know they would LOVE it! It is very expensive, and we would never be able to swing it out of our regular budget, so my challenge money would be the only way we could ever take them. I think it would make a really special memory for them to always have. Debating over whether to just get a "day pass" or whether to spend the night (lowest overnight fare is $324). Thinking about being able to do this gives me even more motivation since there is a tangible reward (besides just the $1,369 itself).

Since we've starting get the pool ready to open, my days haven't been as long and boring, and I'm actually more "tired" when it is bedtime. My green beans are coming along nicely - several pots now have runners going up the bamboo poles I have in the pots. Should be reaping our first harvest about the time I will be ending my fast!

Everyone have a good day, and thanks again for following my progress. I notice all the "likes" and realize that you are making an investment in me, and I appreciate it.

Amazing. 12 days. 1 day is a long fast for me. I'm not sure how you survive on only fluids especially with all of your activities. Way to go!

May have changed since my kids were that age, but in addition to being overpriced, the GW did not have a great reputation. Crowded, loud, little dirty around the edges. Busch Gardens has a water park that can keep a group of kids occupied for the better part of the day, super clean, plus rides for all ages. You can can stay at a Hilton or Radisson down there for a fraction of the GW cost or even cheaper if you want to go the motel route. IIRC the Radisson has an indoor pool and game room, right next to the grill pub, which works great for the whole family after the park. That was my go to value weekend away with as many little urchins as I could cram in the car....

That one can of Diet Coke can indeed be a problem. Look up metabolic issues caused by diet soda consumption. I support you however you want to continue this journey. I can’t keep quiet about the Diet Coke though.

Sounds wonderful Debbie and yes 16# bricks will work up a sweat. I am curious though if you are still fasting how can you be in Ketosis? I am really curious thank you

I understand man. I am a total sucker for diet coke or anything diet. I had been myself trying to drink more water without the flavor packets. Its a tough thing to try to conquer especially when it's your number one go to thing.

I read your profile. Aaah. And remembered a program about weight loss on channel 13. They explained that our body reacts to any weight loss as an emergency and turns all possible inner mechanisms to reverse this loss. The reason is our ancestors survived on inner fat storage. The more weight one had, the more was one’s chance of survival .... between rare meals. Plus, running after animal, hunting it or digging for hours in the ground to get edible roots was a challenge and huge energy loss. So, restoring the last maximum amount of weight - is how our body conserves itself. That is why scientists suggested to not gain weight in the first place. Too late for us. Now, we practically fighting against our own nature. They still did not name any magic pill or way to lose wait. Aaah, again.
