Debbie Cousins's Journal, 24 Jul 21

Quite a lot of damage done weight-wise over the past three days. I've STARTED back on the right path this morning, but I'm not confident that I will stay the course. Gotta get that confidence and determination built back up and start seeing some successes again.

The Great Wolf Lodge trip was a great success. The kids had a wonderful time! They were perfect angels the whole time. I succeeded in saying YES more than in saying NO. Little indulgences were great appreciated by my grand daughter, who got a YES to Dippin' Dots and to a Kid-Friendly Strawberry Daiquiri. She was thrilled. They also got indulged to the tune of $45 in game tokens for the arcade, but they had a blast, especially with the ($10 EACH) virtual reality experience.

It was a very exhausting experience for my husband and myself. There was LOTS of standing involved, and a great deal of walking. My husband got very nauseated the second time he went on the biggest ride (like river rafting) with my grand daughter. He also pulled his neck and shoulder, but a Flexeril eased it up. My lower legs really got a workout! They are sore in my calves, shins, ankles, even my feet are sore!

Last night, I went to sleep at 5:30pm and only woke up to pee once during the night, sleeping in until EIGHT a.m. and (it's now 8:30), I already feel like taking a nap.

We had McDonald's for lunch on the way on Thursday, then Pierce's BBQ for dinner that night. I picked up 1/2 dozen donuts from Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast yesterday morning, and we drove through Sonic for lunch. As far as I can recall, I didn't eat any dinner last night - just 1/2 of the piece of carrot cake that was leftover from Pierce's. That was some GOOD carrot cake! I didn't drink ANY water while I was gone - all Diet Coke. So far, I've only had cabbage this morning.

So glad your trip was a success! You worked really hard to get into shape to keep up with those kids. Awesome to see that pay off for you. Wishing you strength and wisdom for the next leg of your fitness journey.

Sounds like a lot of fun for the kids - something they'll always remember.

Under 2 lb. gain after a fun weekend....that's not bad! Debbie, you had the determination to not eat anything for an unbelievable amount of time. YOU CAN MAKE GOOD CHOICES! Looks like it's time you have another conversation with God. Pull out that goal sheet you made after your fast & commit it to memory. You had a great vacation with your grandkids. Think of all the fun memories you can make with them when you're healthy & able to keep up with them.

Thrilled you had such a wonderful time. Sorry your legs bother you so much and it was difficult for your husband. The kids will remember this their whole life. It is precious to make those fabulous memories for them, and actually for the two of you too. Were you able to get in early? It's fine to blow it in the food department for such a short time as this vacation was. It's the before and after that's the problem. I too am having a problem with my eating but am still doing IF. If not for that my weight would have gone up even more. I know I need to cut out the high carbs and sugar for the sake of both my husband and me. It will be a few more days before we get news on his biopsy.

Thanks, everyone, for all your thoughtful comments and encouragement. I did pretty well today, until about 3pm when I made some nachos with crumbled sausage, cheese and black olives, and didn't measure any of it. OH, I didn't really do as well as I was remembering -- husband wanted hot dogs for lunch, and I had 1-1/2, along with a 230-calorie bag of Sour Cream & Cheddar Rippled potato chips. I HAVE downed four waters - which I know isn't a lot, but it's the most I've had in the past 3-4 days. I COULD have had the last 1/2 piece of carrot cake today, but I (with great hesitation) gave it to my husband instead. For a few minutes, I actually considered driving almost an hour each way to get a couple more pieces! My son just brought up some "cheesy eggs" that they didn't eat downstairs, so I have that for breakfast tomorrow morning. Not sure exactly how to record them, since I don't know how many eggs it is equivalent to, or how much cheese is in them. That won't be the best way to start the day, journaling-wise. I did decline the two hash brown patties he brought up, though. So, at least I'm not making ALL bad choices. Yes, @SherryeB, it IS time for me to have another conversation with God. I'm not at all where I want to be, but, praise Him, I'm not where I was. Praying I gain control (or, rather, relinquish it to Him) soon! Hopefully, the scale will be down a tad tomorrow morning, since my bowels moved this morning after weigh-in. Thanks again for all the encouragement. It means a lot!

I say this with the utmost concern and hope for your future but have you ever thought of therapy for this problem? It seems you're doing all you medically can to control your food intake and you want to make better choices but can't. Yoyoing and fasting and gaining can't be good for you in the long term. I wish you the best.

Debbie I know how hard it is to abstain after having such delicious treats. That's why I am convinced that what you and I experience is a true food addiction. For me, I have the goal to learn to "just say no" to the thoughts and urges to eat off plan. Just like a drug or alcohol addition (and other sins of fleshly desire), I am instantly enslaved again when I allow myself to partake of ANY addictive foods. I am getting close to being into a 24 hour fast to break the hold yet again and burn off the harmful cells I have produced from "wrong" foods for me. My stomach still feels bloated from the Boom Chica Boom and the cheese sandwich yesterday. Others may not identify with what you are experiencing but I think I do. With God's help, we can overcome the power that wants to destroy us.

I'm avoiding boxes, bags, barcodes and bars. Sticking to what grows on or from plants, not what's made in plants. It works for me.
