Debbie Cousins's Journal, 27 Jul 21

Well, had a "situation" last night. I had already finished up for the day, and taken my Ambien. After about half an hour, I still hadn't gone to sleep, and I heard my son upstairs so I went to make sure he put the soup in the fridge. Then, things become a blur. This morning, I can see the measuring cup, where I measured out a "bowl" of soup. I see the two little papers that were between the two slices of cheese I added, and I see the package of Texas Toast Croutons on the counter, and I see a very small bit of soup left in the refrigerator. Deduction, I must have eaten the soup last night, which is a REAL SHAME, because I don't remember how it tasted at all! When I first got up this morning, I thought I would put it all on my Food Journal for TODAY. But, that's not really honest, and it was making me feel really defeated for today's prospect, starting out with 600+ calories already "eaten." SO, I moved it to yesterday's journal, where it rightfully belongs, bringing my calorie count up from under 1,600 to over 2,200.

was UP another two tenths of a pound this morning, no doubt because of the soup right before bed. That's still discouraging, but at least I have a chance of succeeding today, without having yesterday's mistake affecting today's progress.

For breakfast, I had cantaloupe, cherries, and a slice of Dave's Killer 21 Whole Grains & Seeds Bread with butter on it. Total 385 calories.

I do NOT want to go to PT this morning, or any more times. I just called and cancelled and thankfully, I won't be charged a "No Show" fee, PTL, (which does NOT get submitted to the insurance company, so it would be all out of pocket!) I know I'm a wuss for not wanting to continue with the PT. The main goal was to get me able to easily (and properly) go up and down stairs; but, after two months of therapy, I'm still not able to do that, though I don't have to PULL on the railing as much to propel myself forward. Anyway, I'll call back tomorrow and let them know that I want to cancel altogether. My left knee has been hurting every day. PT makes it hurt worse. Going to try to be more faithful to apply the Voltaren cream, which is supposed to be used four times a day. Will do that now.

Dreary day today (after a MAJOR thunderstorm yesterday afternoon!) I think I might just go back to bed for another hour or so and then try to be productive. Still need to cut up that watermelon, and I have all of the GWL trip stuff to finish unpacking. Kids are coming for the pool tomorrow. It's supposed to be sunny later, so maybe I'll venture out to clean the pool (which takes about an hour). It's not so daunting of a task nowadays, though, since there isn't so much pollen and stuff flying around in the air and then into the pool.

Th, th, th, that's all folks!

My mother in law took Ambien and then sleep walked quite a bit. She was living with her daughter at the time, which was a good thing. Her daughter caught her before she got outside, put her back in bed and the next morning my M-I-L didn't remember a thing! In other words, Please be careful using Ambien. . Donna

Maintenance after a fast, for me, requires greater commitment, planning and prep than losing the fat. Fasting is simple. Just don't eat. Maintenance is a lot more work. And less fun. Also, in my experience rehab is intrinsically uncomfortable. It hurts. And it sucks. That's part of the price of restoeing full mobility. Have you taken a look at Knee Over Toes Guy on YouTube? Stupid name, I know, but he has very strong content geared specifically for pre/post op knee-hab, and it is accessible to all ages and ability levels.

@jimmiepop, I hadn't heard of Knee Over Toes Guy. I'll have to check that out and see if it goes along with the exercisers they were having me do in PT. I WAS pleased with the difference the PT made in my neck and back. I need to continue to do those exercises at home. I used to take Flexeril (Cyclobenzaprine) every day for neck tension and back pain. Now, I rarely have to take it because of the difference the exercises made. @dboza, I usually don't take the Ambien until I am IN the bed. As long as I fall asleep quickly, I'm okay. If it takes me a long time (even with the Ambien), that's when there is danger of me getting back up and EATING. I've even gone so far, on one occasion, as to have gotten up and made little chocolate mice for the kids (then teens). When I woke up the next morning, I said, "Who made this mess in the kitchen!?" They couldn't believe that I didn't remember making the mice and making the mess myself.

I can't imagine how terrible sleep eating must be, sorry. I wish I had the opposite problem, sleep exercising.

@deb I am familiar with the Flexeril. It's the only thing that works when I throw out my back. Good that you are limiting use.

Also very familiar with the ambien. I am committed to keeping my preaching fast, so I will just say this. You could tell me that you were popping Flexeril and bathing in Diet Coke three times a day, and I wouldn't bat an eye. Ambien, on the other hand, you may want to consider eliminating from your repertoire, gently, once and for all...

YES, @Abbagail212 - why can't I be afflicted with "sleep exercising!!!" Is there a pill for that? @jimmiepop, "bathing in DC 3x/day," LOL! That got me smiling this morning!
