Shrewdness's Journal, 17 Aug 21

Yesterday morning, my hubby, felt great!😊
I was ready to go to work, came back in from the car, for my coffee and water for the day, and heard a rumbling. It was my hubby in the front room and he couldn’t breath, he was scared, so off to the hospital we went.

I was scolded by the nurse for not using an ambulance. I know my hubby and after a million years of dealing with his asthma, I knew he was getting oxygen, just not enough, but knew he’d survived a trip to a hospital that is in Orange County. An ambulance would have taken him to a hospital down the block, he may have truly not make it out there alive! 😠
Plus, after she was being told he just can’t get enough air, she just nodded and let him sit there outside for a long time. So go figure!!🙃

Hospital triage was being done outside because of Covid. They’re always very attentive there, so they must be use to patients having difficulty breathing. So that may be why everyone was just saying yes, we hear you, he can’t breathe, and your point?😒

Al, my hubby told me not to bring his cellphone, but the nurse told me he really needs it, plus make sure it is charged, so I had to go home and get it, the hospital is about 10 miles away with traffic a 30 min drive round trip.
He was in the ER when I got back. Being outside, the nurse stopped what she was doing and brought his cell to him right then and there. Remarkable, I love that hospital!!!❤️

He was admitted, and they are keeping him for a day or two, he asked for the recharger, I told him I was told to have the phone fully charge so I thought that meant not to bring a charger! 🥴 Now, another trip to the hospital and I can’t even see him or go inside.😒
When I brought it back, his assigned nurse came out to get it, how can a hospital be so good like that?💕 I know the hospital by us would have thrown it in a bin and it would never be seen again.

Long long story short, they say he looks great and they have put him on steroids, plus low oxygen and they are keeping him a day or two. 😊
Going to the hospital three times, plus the bit of worrying it causes, helps with weight loss, but don’t try it, not worth it.
We used a new Covid vaccine delivered via an audio interface as music. It is hoped that this will lead to heard immunity, it didn’t work.🤨😄

Prayers for y'all. I understand the asthma deal. I use to have it when I was a kid. It's a hard thing to deal with and some folks don't understand or can't relate to anything with that.

Oh Shrewdness, I am so sorry he isn't feeling good, but that he has good care is wonderful. They have learned so much about care for folks with the virus and have so many more tools with which to work. Prayers for you both. 🙏

Shrewd, OK that is pretty scary. I'm a lifelong asthmatic and the scenario you described is what I've been quietly fearing for the last 20 months. Seriously praying for strength, endurance and healing for Mr.Shrewd now. He's officially on my list until I hear from you that he is in the clear. God bless you both.

You were on my heart yesterday and i prayed for you both several times, I now see why God was prompting me to pray, indeed our God is an awesome God!🙏🏽💗

Sounds like all is well that ends well Shrew! Praise God! Your ambulance decides what medical location they take your loved on to???? Did I read that wrong? “Oh no Mr Ambulance driver!”

Yes going anywhere near a hospital in today’s COVID world is harrowing. A few pieces of advice for essentially everyone but particularly those who have a greater potential for ER/hospital services. Pack a TO-GO Bag that can be grabbed and out the door if necessary and the medics will grab if they can find it quickly enough. 1. Cell phone charging cable AND its wall plug in. With the number of android and APPLE versions out there you need your own cables and the wall plug it fits. Make your cable a 10 ft one. Older hospitals or rehab facilities do not have the number of electrical outlets that newer facilities do. Your cable needs to be long enough to reach the closest non essential outlet. Make sure someone has written down the name of your phone, model number, etc, so that if you do have to go buy one you know what to get. 2. Important phone numbers and passwords.—- I know, a risk, but try remembering this shit when you are stressed. Nothing worse than to be taken to the hospital and not havING any phone numbers memorized—- at least ONE. 3. A couple days supply of any critical medications. Hospitals do not carry every single medicine in the world or every single brand and it may take them 2 days to get yours. If you need it, pack it. 4. Your current medication list—- I have had to deal with this issue multiple times (like 10) in the last 18 months with a sister who has been ill then got COVID and is now a long hauler. I had to drive 75 miles each way twice to deliver charging cable that got run over by machinery, lost, broken or were too short. As a nurse, it is a never ending issue trying to help people get their electronics set up when they barely have time to take care of the person in the next bed who is dying. THE OTHER THING YOU NEED TO TAKE WITH YOU IS YOUR PATIENCE. Medical people are stressed to the max, probably far worse than the average person on their worst day. You are not their only patient.

If you call 911 and you are truly at risk of dying the medics will take you to closest paramedic receiving. If you are having a stroke you will be taken to the closest receiving hospital that is cable of administering clot busters either peripherally or directly into the vessels of the brain to reverse the stroke. CALIFORNIA—- I don’t know how other states might handle it. If you are having a heart attack and family wants you taken to hospital where their cousin works— well what can I say.
