Debbie Cousins's Journal, 21 Jan 22

The day was "drama-less" until a few minutes ago. [Note: for those of you who think that that we should only talk about FOOD, and not what causes us to eat it, kindly move on, without comment] My son's wife, Laura, had a port inserted a couple of weeks ago because she has to have frequent iron infusions. My son just called to say that she has to go to the ER because they think the port site might be infected.

Problem is, Max (her child, age 15) can't be left "alone" with my son, Chip. The other day when they had the screaming match, Chip "put his hands on" Max (to keep him from locking himself in his room, which the crisis people had said Max should not be allowed to do). If the two of them are left together, without a "witness," Max can claim that Chip has done anything he wants to lie about.

SO, while Laura goes to the hospital to get the port checked, Max has to come upstairs (where WE live) and stay up here where he can be "supervised." Neither my husband nor I are at all excited about this arrangement. What if Laura has to be admitted -- THEN what? Are we supposed to stay up around the clock to continue to "babysit" Max? (For those of you who missed my post the other day, Max just got out of the kids mental hospital for supposedly attempting suicide last week -- he took several Vitamin D pills.)

For those of you who pray, I could really use God's grace this evening.

Yes, I am praying for each of you. Vitamin D is so good to help one not get Covid. If Max happened to be low as most people are, especially if they don't take vitamins regularly, maybe he won't catch Covid as easily. Most Vitamin D3 are 500mg or 1,000mg. I regularly took 5,000mg a day for a while. Many Holistic doctors will give many times that for a few days. Don't tell Max though, so he can naively keep thinking that taking a few D is racy. I pray Max will easily be willing to stay upstairs with you as he is supposed to do. I'm praying you and your husband can be calm and your emotions "at rest". That sounds like a good prayer for Max and his parents. Glad you dream in color, so do I. God can speak to you through your dreams, as He has many times, like to Joseph. This is not from the Lord but your purse holds a couple kinds of security plus sometimes your means of communication. As we are under stress from problems, we feel like we are "losing" control of those things. Our complicated minds usually use symbolism but not always. What the symbols mean to you is more important than what anyone else might think they stand for, but your purse strap breaking ties into this thought also. Often whatever is on our minds just comes out at night.

My most pertinent "Joseph-type" dream was the night before I got saved. I dreamed that there was this stairway, leading up to Heaven, and angels were flying up and down it. I didn't have any wings, so I couldn't go up. Then a huge hand reached down and I stepped onto the palm and was lifted into Heaven. The next day, when I heard the plan of salvation presented, I didn't even remember that I had had the dream, until several hours after I asked Jesus into my heart.

Prayers for strength, calm and peace. Please approach this time with calm and the belief that you and the Lord will get through whatever comes. Do not allow your anxiety to set the tone for the interaction. It sounds like Max is seeking attention. Try to stay calm and it will usually help others to do so as well. I have been there too and it truly feels overwhelming. With God's help and your belief you will come through this.

Thanks for the prayers, everybody. I'm feeling the peace. Max has been up here for about an hour and a half. For the first half hour, I made him some macaroni & cheese (because he hadn't had dinner), and I did dishes. Since then, we have both been in the living room, but I've been doing stuff on my computer and phone, and he has been playing games on his phone - so everything going smoothly so far. EXCEPT ... When Max came up, he said, "They are going to the store and I can't be left alone, so they sent me up here." I did NOT sign up to watch him while they just go to the store -- they could have taken him with them. I heard the basement door about a half hour ago and I texted my son to see if Max can come back down, now that they're back home - but my son won't text me back. In other news, I couldn't go do my jobs this morning. It is the first day I have missed in over three months! (The stores were closed on Christmas, though.) Our car has been overheating when it is idling; but, this morning, I started off for the stores and the temperature gauge immediately started going up. By the time I had gotten half a mile from home, it was already up to the 3/4 line, so I made a U-turn and headed back home. By the time I got home, it was already touching the red mark (this was in 19-degree weather, mind you). I think my husband is going to take me in his truck tomorrow morning. I can't take it myself because there's this certain way you have to turn the key to get it to start, and I can never make it work. I could get TO the store, if he started it for me, but I wouldn't be able to start the truck to get back home.
