Debbie Cousins's Journal, 02 Aug 22

Well, drat! Back up to 249.0 this morning. That's discouraging. sigh.

Kept my calories down from the high 1,700' to 1,525 yesterday. It was hard. I felt like I wanted to have MORE of everything I ate, but I quit after my allotted portions. I'm allowing a little more spaghetti for lunch today but will still be in the 1,500's in calories if I continue with the menu plan I've already made.

Still continuing to get in my fruits and veggies. Resisted Entenmann's Rich Frosted Pop'Em's Donut Holes yesterday.

Wanted more Diet Coke because there was a stressful, urgent situation with my daughter and I was a little frazzled handling it. She lives in a verbally abusive situation, and sometimes it gets to be more than she can handle. She was threatening to kill herself. I went over and did three sinks full of dishes for her, brought her some towels because their dryer is broken, took three loads of laundry to take home to do, and went to BJ's and got her emergency rations to last until they get their SNAP benefits on the 7th. She was a little encouraged by all of that and things didn't seem quite as desperate, I think.

That's my life.

Despite the stressful situation you are in, you are managing VERY well. Sounds like a huge NSV for me. Stay the course.

You poor love! It is so hard to be a parent to adult children, isn't it? Your heart breaks with their every problem, and all you can do is apply bandages. My first instinct is to turn to comfort food, as is, I imagine, yours. Stay strong, and remember, the healthier you are, the more you will be able to handle everything.

Debbie, I don’t know if this will work for you but I slowly started replacing non-nutritive foods and high calorie ones with high fiber foods. I did it over the course of 2 weeks (before I went completely plant based) by adding oatmeal, berries, beans, apples, pears, nuts, seeds, asparagus, whole grains (there are packs of pre-made that only need to be nuked for 90 seconds) Dave’s Killer Breads etc. I was able to back my calorie intake from ~1800 per day to between 1500-1600 per day. The fiber keeps me feeling full and satisfied to the point that some days I only eat around 1300 calories. If you decide to try this make sure do it slowly so your body has time to adjust without bloating and gas.

Sorry to hear about the situation with your daughter. I hope she is in therapy. I know you can't make her do anything...Is diet coke so bad? I know the research on it is mixed, but seems like the least destructive vice a girl could have at a time like that. I'd say pour yourself one! Good luck.

Great job helping your daughter. That is the most important thing here. Staying on track is just a bonus here! Sounds like a really tough day. Weight fluctuations just happen. You may be surprised by a big drop one day.
