Debbie Cousins's Journal, 25 Aug 22

I did it! I did it! I only ate 1/2 serving of creme brulee every day for four days. I'll admit, I was very tempted last night to have a second serving. Then, the temptation came again in the middle of the night (since it would technically be today). But, I was able to resist and stick to my plan of only having it in moderation as it fits into my calorie range! PTL for the victory!

Weight still the same as yesterday, which is fine with me. Yesterday's calories 1,480, fiber 22.2g. Fruits/veggies: butter beans, watermelon, cantaloupe and cherries.

Changed my menu for the end part of this week because my daughter agreed to cook a large pork roast and give us half, which I'll get tomorrow. She marinades it and cooks it in apple cider, beef stock, brewed coffee and some other ingredients. Doesn't SOUND all that great, but it is delicious! My husband doesn't want to eat it any other way since he tried hers. So, on Saturday, instead of having a Mushroom Swiss burger, we will be having pork roast, sauerkraut (seasoned with bacon grease), mashed potatoes and cooked carrots.
After we eat the roast for a couple of days, my husband will make BBQ out of the rest, and I'll make Chick-fil-A Coleslaw. Still going to have the Bacon & Tomato Sandwiches on Sunday, because I have two tomatoes that I need to use.

I've now lost over 15 pounds in 8 weeks. It seems very slow to me, but I know that 1-2 pounds a week is what doctors recommend for optimal and sustainable weight loss. Other benefits, for 8 weeks I have eaten fruits and vegetables every day, I have drunk at least a half gallon of water a day (64oz), I have limited my Diet Coke to 3 cans a day. Maybe someday I'll be able to give up the Diet Coke completely, but it won't be today. I'm just pleased that I've been able to sustain the reduction from my 2+ liters a day habit.

All is well. Hope it is going well for you, too!

Awesome job on enjoying your treats, but moderating them! You may find over time that small indulgences are more of a treat than larger sizes. At least, that's what I've found. The marinade for the roast sounds fabulous! As for Diet Coke, that is indeed a tough one. I've managed to remove it from my life everywhere except the office, where I often have 3 or 4 cans throughout the day. It's the habit I'd most like to break, but I don't foresee myself doing so until I retire about 17 months from now. It's kind of my rocket fuel (+ chocolate) I rely on to get through my day. You have done well to cut yours back so much! 👍

I admire your conviction to give up Diet coke. I drink it every day but use a tall cup with ice. Only 1 refill per day. Good luck and that pork roast sounds wonderful! You have a good daughter.

If it were me, I would put the money saved from what you used to spend on diet coke in a jar, and when there's enough, spend it on a non-food treat.

An acquaintance and her husband stopped smoking at the beginning of the pandemic and put the money in a Jar to be spent on a vacation “after the pandemic resolved”. Then they did the same thing with sodas, and finally with the money they saved by not eating fast foods at their jobs every day. They succeeded on all counts and lost weight as well. They recently got back from a Hawaiian cruise, paid for by the money they saved in a little over two years.

Very excited for you! Portion control allows us to have small amounts of the things we really want so we no longer feel restricted and have to binge later.
