Debbie Cousins's Journal, 07 Oct 22

Well, this is frustrating! I'm a full pound heavier this morning than I was on Monday! Possible contributors to the gain: (1) I have been exercising - one mile of walking three days ago, a mile the day before yesterday, and yesterday 1.5 miles! Maybe it's fluid buildup around my knees? (2) I haven't had a bowel movement since day before yesterday. (3) I had one extra Diet Coke yesterday. (4) It's a test, to see whether I'll stick to my diet, even without results showing on the scale. Whatever it is, I'm praying it will turn around quickly. This is discouraging.

Our church is having a yard sale on Saturday, and I worked all day yesterday, gathering stuff for it - mostly stuff my grandkids have outgrown - toywise, not clotheswise. Personally, I hate having clothes at a yard sale. My entire dining room table is stacked 3' high with stuff, as are the loveseat and a big portion of floor in the living room. Last night, I spent about an hour finding the right clothes to redress all of the Disney princess dolls. Just didn't seem right to be selling scores of naked dolls! Still have about 1/3 of them to do.

The extra walking yesterday came from walking back and forth to the playroom bringing things out. I had done one mile of laps in the house before I started the cleanout. Lots of bending to pick things up off of the floor. They're going to take everything over to the church today and set it up on tables under the picnic shelter, so I've got a lot more work ahead of me to get some more stuff out of my old office!

So, what do you think is going on with this weight? Yes, my daily calories have been a little higher this week, but not enough that it should have put me almost 1-1/2 pounds over my previous weight. What's up?

Lots of work to have a sale but the church will be grateful for all you’re doing. Sometimes it can be multiple things that will make your weight fluctuate. I just go with it. Tell myself to focus a lot on the healthy side of things. Healthy food for my mind and body. Think about all the unhealthy foods I am not eating. Realizing I am keeping treats under control, drinking lots of water. Focus on all the good points. Don’t let the week of ups get you down!:)🤗🌸

Thanks, @NAVYWIFESKI. I appreciate your encouragement. You always have something nice to say! So far today, I have done alright. I did decide to have an extra Diet Coke (again today) because I was working from 4:15am-9:30am getting more stuff together for the yard sale. I felt like I deserved a Diet Coke for all that effort. We completely filled the back of my husband's truck with the things we are going to donate. All proceeds will to toward paying postage for Samaritan's Purse Ministries to send Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes (Filled with toys, personal items, etc.) to children in the Ukraine, Florida, places where the greatest need exists.

In answer to your question, google about the waste in our colons. The estimates vary a lot but are quite a few pounds. When I go out to eat I am usually up at least 1 lb. Now I didn't eat an extra 3600 calories so it must be added water weight. It may take me 1 day or 1 year to come back down depending on what I do thereafter. You are doing a lot for the sale, sure hope it works out to be worth it. Most people donate what doesn't sell. It can be heartbreaking. Hope you feel positive about clearing things out of your house so you at least come out cheerful about that. My neighbor had a sale to pay for her dog's cancer surgery, and her friend donated clothes to help her. I doubt the friend knew my neighbor sold the clothes for 50 cents apiece. After the big earthquake here in 1996, I gave a gal a beautiful set of Franciscan dishes and warm sweaters to help her out. Later she told me she sold the sweaters for 10 cents each. If I had known I would have kept them and used them myself. Now I usually try to find people to give things to that will use them. For the last 5 weeks, I have taken jewelry to church in a box and let the gals choose whatever they want. Every piece has been taken but one pair of red sequins with clip backs. No one wants fancy evening wear with clip-backs.

You’re very welcome and thank you for your kind words!:) What a wonderful mission that the proceeds will support and it takes amazing people like you to make it happen. Warms my heart!💜

Debbie, I haven't eaten more calories than I've burned and yet I went from 183 to 190 in a week. On the other hand, my body composition scale indicates that its water (it shows it as an increase in muscle mass, but that's just where the water is stored). My body water percentage is up nearly 4% which accounts for all of the weight gain. I used to get incredibly frustrated with the scale fluctuations but now I'm only mildly irritated (lol). I'm just happy as long as my waist is 34" or less and my shirts are Men's Medium. Those are the measurements that I am fixated on at the moment. Hank in there, I know that you've got this.

Hi Debbie! It may just be the scales - it’s my understanding that most of the bathroom scales we use at home have an error margin of +/- 2 lbs each time we weigh ourselves. Don’t beat yourself up, maybe wait a little longer between weighing yourself, it sounds like you’re being very mindful about diet and exercise, it will pay off. Take care 😊

Temporary stuff, our bodies just naturally fluctuate, some people more than others. Look at the trend instead of just today, you're doing a fantastic job! 💗
