Debbie Cousins's Journal, 30 Nov 22

Today is a dreary, rainy day, and I don't feel like doing my walking. But, I've done two 1/2-mile stints so far - only 1/2 mile more to get in my 1-1/2 miles/day. I can't believe that I've been walking consistently for 36 days! That's a miracle for me. When I don't want to walk, I ask myself, "Will I feel worse walking, or will I feel worse after NOT walking?" I would feel much worse breaking my walking streak, so I press on.

I don't think I mentioned this yet (if I did, forgive me), but I read in the AARP magazine last week that people who walk 3,800 steps a day are 25% less likely to develop Alzheimer's than those who don't. Right now, I've been walking about 3,300 steps a day for 25 days (when I complete today's walking). I just need to push a little more - to walking 1.7 miles a day! I don't think I'm quite ready to do that yet, but I can see it in my near future.

I'm looking forward to my Outback dinner tonight! I would enjoy it much more if we were eating it AT the restaurant, but my husband is a party pooper and wants me to get takeout and bring it home to him. He's a great guy, though, and I have very little to complain about when it comes to him. I have been blessed with a godly man who is a good provider and is kind, considerate, and well-respected in the community. I guess I can give a little by foregoing the restaurant experience to let him relax at home after he performs a funeral today.

OK, on to walking that last 1/2 mile. I like to get it done early in the day, so I don't accidentally forget to finish it!

Glad to hear your story, Debbie. I walk only because I cannot have other physical exercise, but I feel much better after walking. Today, it is raining heavily all day, so I am just staying at home. My all activities today are resting, eating well and interacting with FS members so far and before night fall, I have to wash dishes and prepare foods for tomorrow. Life is good and things are getting better everyday and every moment.

You are an inspiration Debbie! I hope I can get back into an exercise/walking routine after being off track (no pun, lol) for more than 6 years. Keep up the great work!

@Windy Day, you can do it! Six years or no six years, all you have to do is take the first step. I walk IN my house! It's 100 steps round trip, going into all of the rooms. Two loops is 1/10 of a mile. I started with a goal of only walking 1/2 mile a day. Once I got used to that, I increased to a mile, and now I'm doing 1-1/2 miles.

Debbie, thanks so much for the support. I am going to get started tomorrow aiming for 1/2 mile. My house is small but it has second floor so the stairs help!
