Plugging along. My wife has recovered enough that she can make it to the bathroom without my help! I’m getting pretty good at all the chores and work. Exercise has not been good with everything on my plate but losing weight anyway feels good. Definitely have found my sustainable WOE.

I am loving cooking. Next is learning how to cook beans and soup. That’s next weeks project. Onward and downward.

😊👏🏻. A tip for making beans from dried: do NOT boil them in salt water. After soaking them in water overnight, just drain and refill the pot with plain water, boil for 1.5-2 hours, and add them to any soups afterwards (in the last 5 minutes of the soup's cooking time, just enough to reheat the beans), If you cook the beans in salted water or soup, their shell will stay hard.

I love beans, I just don't eat them often because of carbs. I agree with JB, no salt while boiling. It makes them tough .

Thank you I will remember that. I so t think I have salt here anyway :-). I will take all the tips I can get and then mess them up anyway. In most things I do I am really good at them the second time :-)

You are doing great. Glad to hear the good news about your wife.

I learned that adding 1 tsp of baking soda to beans cuts the cooking time and gives a creamy texture to the beans. It works by raising the pH. JustBananas gave good guidance and the baking soda is a trick I learned from Cooks Country.
