Debbie Cousins's Journal, 20 Apr 23

Almost to ONEderland! Maybe tomorrow. Kept cholesterol under 200, got in over 31g of Fiber, kept calories under 2,000 (which is NOT what I want to report - I really want to get them closer to 1,600/day), increased Protein, only got in 4 cups of water, walked 3-1/2 miles with hurting knee and foot.

I made a couple of appointments yesterday. I will be going to the Podiatrist to see why the top of my left foot hurts when I bend it or walk and why my second toe bothers me sometimes. I went to this doctor in 2019 for excruciating pain in my heel, and he suggested I wear shoes with the heel higher than the toe and never go barefoot. I took his advice and haven't had any heel pain since. Hoping he has some good advice that will alleviate this annoying pain.

Made an appointment with the ortho doctor (whom I don't like!) He is the one who, a year ago, put in his notes that I was "morbidly obese," and that was the reason I have knee pain. Well, I've lost 58 pounds since then, and I STILL have the knee pain. Going to see if there is anything I can take (medication) that will work better than the Meloxicam my PCP gives me. Knee pain has been worse the past couple of weeks because I've been out of Meloxicam and taking some leftover Celebrex I had. Prescription for Meloxicam is en route; so maybe it will make me feel better. Still really exacerbate the knee pain whenever I walk up or down stairs or stand for any length of time. Thankfully, though, it hasn't been so severe as to prevent me from my 3-1/2 miles of daily walking. The Lord has graciously enabled me to walk for the past 177 days! Getting close to SIX months!

Also have annual eye doctor appointment (need new Rx for my glasses, I think). And, I have an annual appointment with the hematologist to make sure my Ferritin levels are good (not anemic). And, I even have an appointment to get my hair cut. All these, plus a birthday dinner for my daughter are all within a 9-day span. I'll be busy.

Yesterday, I prayed that I would not wake up before midnight and eat a slice of DKB toasted with butter to add to my already 1,972 calories for the day. I didn't wake up until 12:30, and I decided that I didn't want to have to count that on today's total, so I went back to bed without eating anything. Somewhat of an accomplishment for me because I've developed that bad habit again over the past several weeks!

Have a ton of dishes to do today. Yesterday, my knee hurt to badly to stand for that length of time. Thankfully, my knee is feeling better today than it did then.

Just sent out invitations for next week's Daily Accountability Challenge! Hope we'll have a good group like we did this week!

Yesterday, I checked my app and discovered that I have walked 326 miles so far this year! I live in Virginia, and it is enough miles to get me well into New York, New Jersey, South Carolina or Ohio! I looked it up a couple of days ago, and a 5K is only 3.1 miles. Need to build up my endurance so that I walk farther in each stint (Currently walk a mile. Rest. Walk a mile. Rest. Walk a mile Rest. walk the last half mile) Who knows, maybe by the end of the year, I'd be able to walk my first ever "race"!

OK, time for second mile!

Sounds like you're doing lots of things right. Hope you can get some relief from that knee pain. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I hate when doctors assume that obesity is the root cause of a patient's problems without doing their due diligence. I'm sure it's led to late cancer diagnoses, and other ailments that worsen with time.
