Debbie Cousins's Journal, 07 Oct 23

New day - new chance to meet all my goals! Yesterday turned out well in the end. Finished all my PT exercises, walked 2-1/2 miles, drank one bottle of water, read two days of Bible reading (I am behind - will finish catching up today). It’s not even 6:30am and I have already walked 1 mile, drank a whole bottle of water, and eaten a protein bar. Icing knee now and then will get back to it.

Going for 4 miles today! Knee only hurting about pain level #4. It was #6 all day yesterday, but pushing through doesn’t seem to have made it worse. I feel motivated and optimistic this morning, and I’ve got the Lord to thank for working through you FS friends to make that happen.

PS, I finished eating all the cherry cobbler yesterday, so I won’t have that temptation today.

Hooray.! Not quite 9:30, and I’ve already walked 3 miles, done 11 of my 18 PT exercises, drank three 16-oz bottles of water, done 3 days of Bible reading (11 chapters, which caught me up through today’s reading), and I’m making good progress toward trying to get in 100g of Protein today (have already met Fiber goal)! Toying with the idea of trying to do six miles today, which I haven’t done since the day before knee surgery, but I’ll play it by ear (or knee, as is the case). On Sundays, I usually don’t do my PT, so if I need a day to recuperate, I can do that. I’m icing after every mile and chunk of exercises, and still taking Advil every 8 hours and 2 Tylenol every 6 hours. My husband is sick today. Started with a sore throat day before yesterday. Coughing and couldn’t talk yesterday. Still coughing today, and also vomiting. Covid test is negative. Regardless, I’m praying I don’t catch whatever he has!

3:00pm update: SIX MILES! I walked 6 miles today! Did all my PT exercises, drank four 16-oz bottles of water, got in 34g of Fiber and 108g of Protein, while staying under 1,600 calories (including dinner which I’m about to eat and a King’s Hawaiian roll which I will have with butter when I wake up at 8pm to take my Tylenol and Advil). Icing for about the 8th time today. Pain level hasn’t gone above the #4 it was when I woke up this morning, PTL! Praying tomorrow will also be a mild pain day. Thankful to the Lord for the great day He has given me!

Hey Debbie ~ glad to see you are back on track mentally and getting back to your goals! Just curious (maybe I missed it ?) but what did your doctors/PT recommend post-surgery as far as your daily walking routine? p.s. SIX miles is amazing!

Wow, you are doing great. I'm so proud of you for letting the Lord help you get back in the grove. The water, protein, fiber, and exercise are great!

RhumbaGirl, the doctor was amazed when I was walking 2 miles after 3 weeks. He said to let pain be my guide and listen to my body. I’m trying to do those things; but, when the pain prohibits me from accomplishing my goals, I get down on myself for not pushing it.
