Debbie Cousins's Journal, 05 Nov 23

180.6 this morning, after finally clearing my bowels yesterday. Got in my six miles but didn’t do any PT exercises because of my back. For about a month now, it has been hurting every time I walk, which is 6x a day, so basically hurting all the time. I’ve been taking Cyclobenzaprine and Tizanidine, and have kept a heating pad on it non-stop whenever I’m in my recliner. But nothing is helping. Going to have to go to a chiropractor (or something).

Grandson will be coming back home around 3pm today, and is spending the night. I’m so glad to get him back from his father, who yells at him for the uncontrollable diarrhea! At least my daughter was there to yell right back at him! Still, very hard on poor little Jack.

Your grandson is fortunate to have you. Life is hard for him and for you too. So sorry your back is painful. The stress you are under has probably contributed to your back "flare". I stopped writing to pray for both you and Jack.

Debbie, have you tried ice instead of heat for your back? Ice works better than heat for my ankle.

I hope Jack and you both feel better soon.

Also you should probably have an X-ray and/or mri to make sure there isn’t something else going on. Or perhaps it’s your mattress? We bought a new mattress twice in 3 years trying to help my hip and back pain. Wound up with a sleep number which has been a god-send.

Snowwhite100 and Morticia thank you for your best wishes and prayers. So far, Jack’s blockage hasn’t budged. Poor guy hasn’t hardly wanted to eat anything because he doesn’t want it to get any bigger and he’s afraid of how much it will hurt when it finally moves. Shirley, haven’t tried ice on my back. Makes sense, though, and I might try that today. Yesterday, I just avoided the problem as much as possible by only walking 2.4 miles. YOH, we have a Purple mattress, which we LOVE! Very comfortable, and I don’t wake up with back pain, like has happened with every other mattress we’ve owned after a year or two of use. We tried Sleep Number, and it just didn’t work for us. Thanks for the suggestion, though! On Thursday, I’ve got another birthday dinner to prepare. Won’t be as hard to prepare as the last one I did for my granddaughter, though., thankfully! Please continue to keep Jack in your thoughts and prayers. We’ve GOT to get him cleaned out before school restarts on Wednesday. We’ve been treating him (per doctor orders from when he had encopresis in September) with 3 adult doses of MiraLAX a day. The diarrhea is pretty much constant. Poor little guy is worn out. We’re all so ready for this to be over, but we can’t stop until the solid stool is passed. Please, God, let it be today!
