Hammertone's Journal, 19 Sep 21

Hmmm, 2kg in 3 months, not all that bad considering. I think most of the extra weight has been accumulated in the last 6 weeks. My twin brother, Dave (identical twin actually) became gravely ill with an infection that morphed into sepsis. After 4 or 5 weeks, the treating specialists conceded defeat and stopped treatment, moving him onto a palliative care regimen. He lasted 10 days. His funeral was on Thursday, and I am pretty much broken.
When severely stressed, I eat whatever I can get my hands on to fill the emotional hole and can stack weight on very quickly. I've lost loved ones before and I've coped with that, but Dave was my only sibling, so we were unusually close and this has flattened me completely. The ACT is in total lockdown, so none of my kids could attend, as they all live interstate and that made it harder. The 20 person restriction on funerals stopped a lot of people from attending. I am fortunate to have a physical outlet to burn off the pain for an hour or two. It's an unorthodox treatment for grief but it works for me. I include a pic of my therapeutic apparatus.

Playing music really is awesome, I would be lost without my French horn. Sorry to hear your news, that is really hard to get through. I'm glad you have your kit to help x

Thanks, spicehorn. I really need to hit something hard and often. We're in COVID lockdown so I can't play with my bandmates (my drumcave doubles as a rehearsal space.)

I am so sorry for your loss. My sister passed away in 2019 - she was 34 years old so i empathise with your loss. I am also a Canberra resident, been here since 2019 - originally from South Africa. Keep fighting the good fight. Onwards and forwards.

Mate that is as rough as it gets - very sorry to hear! At times like this, I like to remind myself that someone is never truly gone so long as you remember them. All the best!
