** SIZE MATTERS? **

I was just looking at a thread on a bodybuilding website: "What is your arm size?" (all non-steroid lifters posting their measurements.)

The range for guys seems to be between 11" (skinny beginners) and 17.5" (bigger dudes with a bit of arm fat). It's all about proportion though; guys with little arms on a thin frame look decent. Carrying a lot of excess body fat in the belly or other places seems to skew the look dramatically.

I remember being awed as a kid by Hulk Hogan and his "massive 24-inch pythons" or Arnold's 22s...

Reading the thread gave me hope since I've grown 1.5" in 2 months already and barely any fat in my arms! I'm at 13" now (up from 11.5" when I'd started in July) and nice definition... finally gonna be normal soon! 😁

The factor working against me is I'm 6-feet tall. I'm gonna hafta work harder to LOOK bigger than a guy that's 5'9" with the same measurements - they're always gonna look stockier in comparison.


Some famous studs' measurements (for reference):

Daniel Craig has 16" arms at 5'10"

Mark Wahlberg and Chris Hemsworth (Thor)  both have 16" arms, but Mark is 5'8" and Chris is 6'4"

Brad Pitt had 14.5" arms in Fight Club (but shhh - don't talk about it!) and 15" for Troy at 5'11"

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's are 20" and he's 6'5"!

So, by Christmas, I should be in the ballpark finally!

16.5 at 5'9" cold. Probably closer to 17 "pumped" I wouldn't compare the Rock since he is not natty. I know he hasn't admitted to it but....yeah. Also, you can definitely look as stocky and since you're taller your ceiling is higher. For instance, in Pumping Iron even though Arnold and Franco were probably on the same steroid cycle, Franco had maybe 18-19" arms and Arnold had 22" arms.

I'm actually surprised about Hemsworth, they look much bigger than 16" considering his height.

Maybe you're right but with smaller bones you create an illusion of having larger muscles. I recall Flex Wheeler claiming he had a small wrist size, he sure didn't seem to suffer compared to everyone else. He just looked even more impressive to my eyes. You may envy shorter dudes when it comes to looking stocky but I envy taller guys since they get to eat more to be similar in size proportion wise. lol, I do love to eat.

If I can keep 16 or above when I get to 165 I'll be happy. I think I remember reading that multiplying your arm size in inches by 10 will give you a good estimate of what bodyweight you need to be to look aesthetic as possible. But yeah, if you do everything right that is doable.

Goes to show arm size isn't everything. If your chest and back match them you'll look much more impressive(Wahlberg vs. Craig for example). No offense to my workout partner but he is a good example, his arms may be slightly bigger than mine but overall, I look a good bit bigger since my chest and back are more developed.

A lot of guys focus on curls more because they are ignorant of that fact. Most guys, especially at Planet Fitness have no concept of how nutrition works either. You have a good leg up on most gym goers.

Bro it’s all relative, I think. Many factors we don’t have control over have been in place for years. But like you I would just like to improve. Age and time have left their marks right? Be your best and have a good time getting there!

Yep, that's why I take pictures. Slight changes every day or every other day that I can see in pictures. I see it in the mirror as well but being able to compare on the fly is great.

You'll get there! Interesting fact on Mark Whalberg versus Chris Hemsworth having same bicep size .. for the record although I have always been a massive fan of Marky .. I would definitely go for the more "athletic" Chris Hemsworth physique every time. Not all women prefer a super buff dude .. but then what you like yourself is something else too :) But don't knock your height and athleticism over stockyness.

I won't get any bigger on my calendar intake, can be happy I have less the 0.1kg fat on each arm so they look bigger then they are💪

Hmm, it will be cool to see how long it takes Chris doing a more traditional lifting program. Seeing how it compares to F45 for size will be neat.

F45 strips size, If I didn't do independent weight lifting I would have wittled away to nothing hahahaha

My goals change alot, I will bulk at some stage potentially. But I think I want to have a crack at some legit rock climbing so being lean will be advantageous, still will try out for ninja warrior next year so again being lean will be a huge advantage

You can maintain with less effort than it took to attain it but I think you will still need to have some intensity in your lifting.

Crossfitters are a good example. The top guys did not attain their size via Xfit but they can maintain most if not all doing Xfit. Besides, I'm pretty sure some of the top guys were caught juicing.
