Donna Mashburn's Journal, 05 May 19

Finished up my first week of keto. I did well with it; better than I thought I would. There have been a few things I looked at wistfully, but no serious temptations yet. I will be glad to get settled back in at home so I can monitor my weight a little better. The best days for me to weigh will be on Saturdays and Wednesdays due to my work schedule. Looking forward to getting under 200 lb. Haven't done that in over a year. Hope to have some support from my sister and brother in law as they have also decided to try keto as well. They eat extremely heavy carb diet. They both are active with CrossFit. I think I would enjoy trying that. I have always exercised by myself because I lived so far out that there wasn't enough time because of the distance to drive to a gym. I do good working out for a month or two and then seem to lose my drive. I think working in a group environment would be helpful. Anyhow, something to look forward to.

If you join your local ymca they have group classes. Ours has them as early as 5am, as late as 6pm and some on Saturday mornings. You could swing by after work to lift some weights as well so it wouldn’t take any extra driving time. Ours has tons of different cardio machines along with weight machines, jump ropes, different exercise balls, dumbbells, barbells, 3 gyms, a rock climbing thing, sauna in the locker room, pool, hot tub, water weights... tons more that I don’t know the names of.

It’s a reasonable fee considering all they offer. We have kids who play on the Ys basketball teams so it’s even more worthwhile for us. Other places in town offer $10/month if all you want is the machines and free weights. I want to try the hot works place. A friend recently took it over but I don’t know the price and I honestly wouldn’t go much so it would need to be like the $10/month or it’s not worth it. The Y is $50ish for 5 of us. Oh and they have free child care mornings and some evenings which helps me in the summer. Have to be there of course but it’s hard to work out with 4&10 year olds sitting on the bench giving me the evil eye lol. Ours has a play ground area that I’ll send them to if it’s not busy or if my 13 yo is with us. It’s on a lower floor and I’m always worried about people hurting or taking them. Too many creeps out there for me to just let them run.
