I find a lot of convenience foods have far more salt than is healthy, so I make my own taco seasoning without it. Mix up a big batch, then I can toss it in a corn/bean salad with a light vinaigrette or use it with lentils for a burrito filling

Yes, I watch sodium too and seasoning packets can be high salt. Great that you make your own and love your ideas for how you use it!:)😋 Enjoy your day!

Thanks! You, too! If there's any interest, I can post the proportions. The spices would be frighteningly expensive if I bought them at the grocery, but Sam's Club has big containers reasonably priced, and Natural Grocers sells spices in bulk that are inexpensive.

Yes, I would love your recipe!:)

I don't have a problem with my blood pressure so don't usually pay attention to the sodium content. BUT I really taste the salt in the taco seasoning packets, even when I buy the low sodium packets. I've been reducing the amount I use. Soy sauce is also super salty tasting to me now. All of a sudden I am really sensitive to salt.

Sprouts (if you have one near you) also sells bulk herbs by the ounce, which turn out to be WAY cheaper!

Fritzy -- I don't have problems with BP to speak of, but I find the amount of salt in most processed and convenience foods to be unnecessarily out of control, over the top. I'm not opposed to salt, but it's just not needed in those quantities. Same way I feel about sugar and fat

CrystalJo -- will do! Probably won't be able to get to it until tomorrow. are1981 -- good tip! We don't have a Sprouts here, so I didn't know that. I think a lot of natural foods stores have reasonably priced bulk herbs

they also have way too much sugar in them. one of the very rare heated arguments BF and I had was early on over poultry seasoning of all things. his mom used McCormick and I use fresh herbs. he insisted his mother's version was the gold standard and all I remember was yelling at him that if he could find a poultry seasoning plant that I would say he and his mother were right. we both walked away on that one. scratch tastes better most of the time, but not always. we're still together so I guess it worked out.

Yup. Way too salty. I had issues with my BP and started making my own as well.

That's very smart of you to do that writingwyo, I find that there is a lot of things that I buy that have a lot of salt in them, and it's definitely not good for high blood pressure, I was reading the label on tuna creations and had no idea how much sodium is in them, so I have to rinse or boil the salt out of foods that I want to eat, I'm trying to watch my intake so my pressure won't go up, your doing a great job and I will master that too one day.

Here's my recipe. All are dried spices. Giving this in parts rather than measurements so you can scale it up or down as you like: 1 part oregano; 2 parts each cornstarch, crushed red pepper, cumin, and garlic; 4 parts chili powder; 8 parts dried minced onion
