I know science is always right. Usually when I try to lose weight, I don't track my calories and stuff, since a lot of the meals I eat aren't made by me. I also stay pretty active with sports and exercise. But somehow it works, so obviously I've got a negative energy balance, right?

Well I've decided that I'll try to track my macros now, nothing serious, just recording and controlling how many cals I eat per day and trying to eat as much protein as I can.

I'm just worried that I won't lose weight. I mean, the science MUST work out right? But it's just that in the past, water weight or some other thing comes along and ruins it. Even if I eat in a deficit, I'll drink loads of water or not work out one day, and then the scale goes up. In contrast, a while back I was on holidays and eating a bunch of food, probably at or over my maintenance, but when I came back I was somehow lighter. I guess it could have been the whole, healthy foods leading to me losing water weight or something, but it really pisses me off.

Why, when I track my calories and go into a purposeful deficit, does the scale remain stubborn, but when I eat intuitively, I lose weight?

Damn you, stupid water weight and weird complicated science!
