TDX00's Journal, 24 Sep 21

G'Day All! I've been using the FatSecret app on and off for nearly a decade, though this is my first Journal post.

So why am I posting now? Because this time I mean it! This time I'm not going to give up on my diet like the hundreds of diets before it. I'm not going to let excuses like "life just got in the way" or "my ankle injury is acting up" derail my progress. I've been failing at weight loss for far too long now and I'm bloody over it! THIS IS THE LAST TIME!!

So why am I telling you this? I'm not, I'm telling myself and using you fine people to help create some sort of accountability. I'm trying to do thing differently this time, rather than do the same things I've always done, which have nearly always failed. Thank you for your part in this endeavour.

I say 'nearly' because I've had successful calorie counted/CICO diets in the past. I know it 100% works if you stick with it. I've gone from roughly 100kg down to 70kg twice now. However, both times I had a motivator that I've haven't had since - loneliness. I was single and didn't want to be, and that proved to be all the motivation I needed. I've been with my wife 7 years now, and I've let myself balloon up to 149kg at times. I'm nearly twice the size I was when we met and it's just not fair on her. We've had two kids over that time, and it's not fair on them either.

Having kids, that just HAS to be my new motivator right? I hoped it would be, though it's clearly not been as effective as I'd hoped. Well perhaps not YET anyways. My eldest is nearly 3yo and is now at the point where he can outrun me, which is a problem. My daughter was born a month ago. Having just turned 35, I'm becoming much more conscious of my weight causing significant health problems down the line. I NEED to be around to raise my kids. I need to speak at their weddings... there's a million life events and cherished memories to look forward to, and I don't want to miss out on a single one of them just because I didn't have the determination to do something about my weight.

So here we go again. Yet another diet. But this time I mean it! THIS IS THE LAST TIME!! Wish me luck...

You can do this. If you slip up, don’t be too hard on yourself and keep believing that you can and in time you’ll be thankful for it.

All the best, try sticking to mainly natural foods, not food in a box. Its Ok to every now and then though to treat yourself, then get back on track the next day. Keep it simple, nature foods are the best.

You echoed my very thoughts this morning even before I read this. I have failed so many times, but this time I will not. Best wishes for your journey. You can do it for those little kids.

Good luck, I’ve started staying motivated by seeing other people’s photos and comments on both here and through a group called 75 Hard on Facebook. Don’t know how I stared seeing their posts but got me back using FatSecret after a year off.

You've got this, just one day at a time and everyday it gets easier. Keto works, count carbs instead of calories.
