Debbie Cousins's Journal, 06 Jan 23

Weight held this morning. I’ve been keeping a secret from you. Today is the 5th day in a row that I’ve walked 2-1/2 miles! I just switched it up from 1-1/2 to two miles 12 days ago. But after only seven days at that distance, I increased again. I was hesitant to report that I was doing the 2-1/2 until I was sure that I could stick with it. Now, it’s my new “normal.” I’m blessed that (1) I can walk, in spite of frequent knee pain, (2) that the layout of my home lends itself to walking inside, (3) that I’m on a med that makes me not sweat profusely, and (4) that God has given me the motivation and determination that, in my own flesh, I am lacking. All glory to God for His blessings!

Congrats, but i would recommend you alternate walking with a bike so you can ease the pain on the joints, use a slightly higher sitting position so you don’t scrunch up the knees, good luck

Are you not walking outside because of the weather?
07 Jan 23 by member: Kenna Morton
@Kenna Morton - no, the weather is pretty mild right now. I walk inside because I have a lot of pain in my knees. We live on 10 acres of cleared property, but there are lots of holes in the ground, and I think the rougher terrain would be more stress on my knees. @picapollo23, I've tried stationary bikes before, but for some reason it tends to hurt my knees more than walking does. @jmrogers2 and Texasgranny6, I'm so glad that you are inspired by my walking. That's how I got started! Someone on here, for whom walking was a challenge, was doing it anyway and it inspired me to do what I COULD do. @ImalittleLESSfluffyNOW, I only walk 1/2 mile at a time, and then I take a 10-15 minute break (sometimes more), so it's not really taxing on me. No need for a "break" day. Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments! I figure "If I can walk, almost anyone can."
